Job summary

Egis Group in Toronto is seeking an Electrical Engineer – ITS to design and deliver ITS electrical systems for urban transportation projects. You will contribute across preliminary and detailed design, regulatory compliance, and construction support.

You will collaborate with electrical, civil, and municipal teams, mentor junior engineers, ensure code compliance with Canadian standards, and help develop design templates and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with a Canadian regulator is required.
  • 5-10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience with MTO.
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong project management and mentorship abilities.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and energy-efficient design practices.

About the Role

The Electrical Engineer – Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer is a technical role within multidisciplinary infrastructure project teams based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The position focuses on the design and delivery of ITS electrical systems supporting urban transportation infrastructure projects.

The role contributes across multiple project phases, including preliminary design, detailed design, regulatory compliance, and construction support. Responsibilities involve coordination with electrical traffic signal, civil, transportation, and municipal stakeholders to ensure integrated and code‑compliant electrical solutions aligned with Canadian standards and client requirements.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in ITS design, demonstrates technical leadership capability, and provides oversight and mentorship to junior engineering staff while supporting quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives within electrical design teams.

Job Description

  • Design and implementation of electrical systems with experience in ITS Design.
  • Design and integrate systems including:
    • CCTV and video surveillance
    • Variable Message Signs (VMS)
    • Vehicle detection systems
    • Fiber optic communication networks
    • Traffic Management Centres (TMC)
    • Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS)
    • Automatic Incident Detection (AID)
    • Connected and Smart Transportation infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain design documentation, specifications, and reports in accordance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into larger projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and design teams.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, local codes, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in client and project meetings, providing valuable input and insights.
  • Contribute to the growth of the Electrical department through the review and development of standards and templates.
What do we need from you
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with a Canadian engineering regulator
  • 5-10+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering roles
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with MTO.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D softwares used for infrastructure projects will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with both internal teams and external clients.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and mentor teams.
  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and energy-efficient design practices.
