Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Vancouver seeks an Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering Services team. You will design electrical systems for high‑performance buildings, from concept through construction documents, collaborating with multi‑discipline teams.

You will work on LV/MV distribution, lighting, power, fire alarm, communications, and control systems, coordinating with utilities and contractors while applying the Canadian electrical code.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering and PE licensure (BC) required.
• 4–10 years of electrical engineering consulting experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit; PLC programming is a plus.
• Knowledge of Canadian electrical code and building systems.

Responsibilities

• Deliver electrical system design, calculations and schemes across projects from concept to construction.
• Prepare schematic design, development drawings and specifications for LV/MV, lighting, power and other systems.
• Review client requirements and propose design options to meet them.
• Assist in delivering documents within budget and schedule.
• Perform design reviews for quality and compliance with codes and standards.
• Coordinate with utilities and municipalities for incoming services.
• Review shop drawings and resolve on-site issues with contractors.
• Provide technical direction to junior designers and CAD operators.

Overview

Our Engineering Services team in Vancouver is dynamic and tight‑knit, servicing local projects while contributing to large national and international projects as part of distributed virtual project teams. Our projects are varied and span National Defense, Transportation (Rail + Transit, Maintenance Facilities, Ports + Marines, Tunnels, Airports), Municipal, Nuclear Facilities, Healthcare, Provincial, Light + Heavy Industrial, and Institutional industries across Canada and the United States.

As AtkinsRéalis positions itself for growth in the British Columbia marketplace, we are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our team in our Vancouver office. You will be trained and mentored by our highly skilled Electrical Engineering Professionals. As a valued member of our team working collaboratively, you will have a passion for electrical engineering in high-performance buildings of all types. Your technical knowledge of how all electrical components of building systems and site distribution, contribute to building energy efficiency, will set you apart.

Your role

• Deliver the electrical system design, calculations, and systems in multi-disciplinary projects from preliminary design throughout the project lifecycle.

• Preparation of schematic design, design development, and construction documents (drawings and specifications) for electrical systems, including low and medium voltage distribution, lighting, power, grounding, fire alarm, communications, security, and control/signal systems.

• Review, understand, and clearly communicate all relevant client requirements, provide design options and recommendations to meet those requirements.

• Assist with preparation of deliverables to meet financial targets and schedule.

• Assist with peer reviews for quality control and quality assurance. Review and complete design calculations and construction documents.

• Demonstrate knowledge of codes, standards, construction means and methods related to electrical engineering to ensure designs are optimized for construction practices within the building’s construction industry.

• Coordinating with Utilities and Municipalities regarding incoming services.

• Independent review of shop drawings. Work with contractors to quickly resolve onsite issues and ensure contractor’s conformance to design requirements.

• Providing technical directions to junior designers and CAD operators.

About you

• Degree in Electrical Engineering. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with EGBC.

• 4-10 years’ experience in the electrical engineering consulting. Previous electrical design experience in National Defense, Transportation (Rail + Transit, Maintenance Facilities, Ports + Marines, Tunnels, Airports), Municipal, Nuclear Facilities, Healthcare, Provincial, Light + Heavy Industrial, and Institutional industries.

• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit. PLC programming is an asset.

• Knowledge and application of the Canadian electrical code.

• Demonstrated excellent written and oral English communication skills.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $90,000 - $130,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
