Job summary

COOEC Canada Company seeks an experienced Electrical Designer to join our Calgary team. Travel to site near Fort McMurray may be required to support field assignments and project deliverables.

The role focuses on designing electrical systems, producing detailed schematics, and performing power system analyses in a multi-disciplinary environment. Applicants should have Oil & Gas experience and a strong command of relevant standards.

Qualifications

• Completion of a two-year college program in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or a related three-to-four-year apprentice program.
• 5+ years of experience as an Electrical Designer in the Oil and Gas sector.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to join our team. As an Electrical Designer, you will be responsible for designing electrical systems and creating detailed schematics for various projects. The successful candidates will be working out of our Calgary office, as well as travel to site occasionally to Long Lake (near Fort McMurray) when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Familiar with regulations and industry codes and standards.
• Perform engineering analyses and prepare electrical deliverables.
• Understands engineering work planning, scheduling, and cost estimating.
• Aware of technical issues related to electrical design and be able to discuss with customer and suppliers.
• Familiar with procurement process, including preparation of material requisition and bid evaluation process.
• Experience of multi-discipline work environment.
• Conduct power system studies using ETAP or SKM.
• Provide protective relay calculations and settings.
• Carry out engineering calculations and analysis for demand load, equipment sizing, voltage drop, motor starting, neutral grounding resistors (NGRs), and system power factor improvement.
• Design substation layouts, grounding layouts, electrical equipment layouts, MV/LV motor control schematics, control panel layouts, cable, and tray schedules.
• Prepare Area Classification Drawings
• Read and extract electrical information from P& IDs and mechanical equipment load list.
• Develop all electrical deliverables related to Electric Heat Tracing.
• Vendor document/drawing review.
• Reports to Electrical Lead or Overall Lead.

Qualifications:

• Completion of a two-year college program in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or three-to-four-year apprentice program in a related field.
• 5 + years experience as a Electrical Designer within the Oil and Gas sector.
• A sound knowledge and experience modelling equipment and electrical designing applications.
• Able to make basic day-to-day decisions which may involve planning and are well defined by project requirements.
