Overview

DRS Pivotal Power, Inc. is located in Bedford, Nova Scotia. DRS Pivotal Power is a leader in the design, development and manufacture of high reliability power conversion equipment for mission critical applications supporting all branches of the military in Canada, the US and many countries abroad. All products are designed and manufactured in house by our growing team of over 100 employees. DRS Pivotal Power is part of the Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics group and has currently over 30,000 fielded units boasting a field reliability of over 99%.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, Site Lead, the EHS Specialist will ensure the company is in compliance with all Health and Safety related legislation by reviewing and implementing our safety related policies and procedures. They will be responsible for EHS at two locations, in Bedford, NS and Kanata, ON. This role will be based out of our Bedford, NS location and report in-office for the role.

Responsibilities
  • Daily activities focused on Environmental Protection and Employee Safety
  • Ensure compliance to all health and safety related policies and procedures (legislative and company specific)
  • Have an active role in Bedford and Kanata Joint Health and Safety Committees, lead monthly meetings and promptly follow upon issues through to resolutions
  • Perform routine site inspections for compliance with health and safety regulations, including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, and ergonomics
  • Perform investigation and the root cause analysis for all safety related accidents and incidents with a primary focus on prevention
  • Ensure operational execution of emergency evacuation plan (including annual evacuation drills)
  • Oversee the sites Health and Safety documentation including program design, data collection and posting, and KPI reporting
  • Prepare Safety Data Sheet (SDS), master labels and other documentation as needed
  • Track, plan, conduct and/or facilitate training programs for employees to ensure compliance with legislation and ensure required certifications are maintained
  • Participate in health and safety audits providing input on improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions identified in audits
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, science or related field preferred with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent years of experience
  • Possession of an International Facilities Management Association Certificate is desirable
  • Proven knowledge of legislation related to health and safety
  • Proven ability to track and maintain a
  • Effective team player with highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to interface well with people of different disciplines and levels
