The EHS Site Director reports to the EHS NAM Director and works closely with the Project Director.
Purpose of the job:
- The EHS Project Director has overall responsibility for managing Health & Environment to achieve EHS excellence at the site level. Working with the NAMEHS Director, site Managing Team & EHS site Team to achieve sustainable EHS excellence by ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our people and contractors.
- Protect Alstom assets and reduce risks of business interruption resulting from fire and natural catastrophes.
Key Accountabilities:
- Support Site Management to safely deliver the project and reach milestones for each phase.
- Manage the site EHS Team (monitor, assist, coach, assess, develop).
- Collaborate with clients, constructors, project managers, and contractors.
- Develop, strategize, and implement SMS adapted to each phase.
- Ensure deployment of Alstom EHS standards and tools & AZDP at the project level.
- Implement a strong EHS culture aiming for zero deviation.
- Coach and support project managers in EHS ownership.
- Develop EHS understanding and competencies; deploy learning and development programs (Training Matrix).
- Build an EHS communication plan.
- Ensure accidents/incidents are prevented, reported, recorded, investigated, and analyzed.
- Support local teams in establishing REX reports for severe or potentially severe accidents, ensuring quality analysis and communication.
- Implement Modified Work Program.
- Maintain legal watch.
- Have full authority to stop any activity posing immediate high risk to People or Environment.

Educational Requirements:
- University Engineer or Business Degree
- Recognized Health and Safety Qualification to Diploma or Degree level
- Environmental Qualification to Diploma or Degree level
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years in EHS function
- Experience leading a team
- Experience as EHS Manager
- Knowledge of EHS regulations in Ontario
- Experience in Railway and/or construction
- Experience in multicultural environments & matrix organizations
- Knowledge of ISO14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO45001
- Deep knowledge of local legal requirements
- Teamwork and leadership skills
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- Ability to organize, plan, and schedule
- Ability to develop a global view
- Proactive and action-oriented
