Job summary

Providence Health Care in Vancouver seeks an Educator for Wound, Ostomy & Skin Continence to advance patient care through expert education, clinical practice, and evidence-based approaches.

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, you will educate staff, consult on wound/ostomy care, and collaborate with NSWOC and the interdisciplinary team. Travel between PHC sites is expected.

Qualifications

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Two years of recent advanced wound/ostomy/continence care experience.
  • Certification in NSWOCC WOC-EP or WOCN is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical consultation for complex wound and ostomy care.
  • Deliver direct patient care using advanced nursing skills.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate education programs based on staff learning needs and priorities.

Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $49.20/Hr. - CAD $63.47/Hr.

Summary

We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Educator, Wound, Ostomy & Skin Continence to support excellence in patient care through education, clinical expertise, and evidence-based practice!

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager and working in collaboration with the Chief of Professional Practice and Nursing or designate:

  • Provide consultation and education in wound, ostomy, and continence care.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Specialist and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Work with Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) across BC to support consistent, standards-based care.
  • Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate education programs for staff.
  • Promote evidence-based clinical interventions in client care planning.
  • Build staff capacity and competence in wound, ostomy, and continence care.
  • Support quality improvement and best practices across care sites.
  • Travel between PHC sites using personal vehicle or shuttle service as required.
  • Regular local travel is required, especially for roles supporting Residential sites.
Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. What You Bring

Education:

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives
  • Two (2) years recent, related advanced wound/ostomy/continence care experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Successful completion of the Wound, Ostomy, Continence Institute of Canada (NSWOCC)-Wound, Ostomy, Continence-Education Program (WOC-EP) or the Wound, Ostomy Continence Nurse Certificate (WOCN).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to teach, coach, lead groups, provide clinical support, identify learning needs, and develop educational programs and resource/educational materials using adult education principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform CPR procedures appropriate to the clinical area, along with comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client- and family-centred model of care, evidence-based nursing practice for the designated clinical area, BCCNM
  • Standards for Nursing Practice, and the roles of other health disciplines.
  • Broad knowledge of research processes and methodology, and the ability to apply analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team, communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, provide leadership and work direction, and role model conflict resolution strategies.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and organize work independently, adjust to new or unexpected events, operate related equipment including computers, and meet the physical demands of the position.

Your Day to Day:

  • Provide clinical consultation for complex wound and ostomy care by assessing clients, reviewing charts, and collaborating with the care team
  • Deliver direct patient care using advanced nursing skills within the specialty area
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate education programs based on staff learning needs and clinical priorities
  • Promote evidence‑based practice by integrating research into policies, procedures, and education materials
  • Act as a clinical resource by mentoring staff, role modelling best practices, and supporting complex case discussions
  • Review and recommend updates to clinical policies, procedures, and reference materials
  • Participate in research activities and contribute to quality improvement initiatives related to wound and ostomy care
  • Support risk management by identifying practice gaps and recommending corrective actions or policy changes
  • Provide education and support to interdisciplinary team members across PHC
  • Offer input on staffing, space, equipment needs, and contribute to staff performance planning when requested
