Job summary

A local school board in the Niagara Region is seeking Casual Educational Assistants to support students with special education needs. Responsibilities include working closely with teachers, assisting in delivering instruction, and addressing hygiene and health needs of students. Completion of an Educational Assistant Program is preferred. This position offers flexibility with casual on-call hours and a $26.91 per hour pay rate.

Job description
Overview

Casual Educational Assistants work on an on-call, as-needed basis to fill in for Educational Assistant staff who are away or on leave. They assist students with special education needs in achieving personal, social, physical and academic development under the direction of the classroom teacher or other professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Work as a team member, collaboratively with the classroom teacher and other school staff
  • Support the inclusion of students with diverse learning needs
  • Assist in the delivery of instruction to help students with special education needs achieve the goals and expectations outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Attend to hygienic, health and safety needs of students as required, including but not limited to toileting, mobility, feeding, positioning, communication support, social supports, life skills and behavior management, consistent with assessments and supports in place
  • Keep daily anecdotal notes and tracking data as appropriate
What You Bring
  • Completion of the Educational Assistant Program from a Community College (preferred) or an equivalent college or university degree in a child-related field (DSW, Social Work, Social Services, ECE, PSW)
  • Willingness and ability to work with teachers with various needs of students in an integrated setting
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, written and oral skills
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (an asset)
Locations
  • Must be able to travel to all locations within the Niagara Catholic District School Board jurisdiction
Hours
  • Varies as needed on a casual on-call basis. Must be available Monday to Friday for elementary and secondary school hours. There is no guaranteed set of hours, but full availability could lead to full-time work based on system needs
Rate of Pay

$26.91 per hour
