Job summary

The Education Assistant 2 position supports the teacher with small groups or individual students according to an education plan. You monitor and assist during breaks and unstructured times to keep students engaged and safe in the school environment.

You will perform health procedures, support communication and life skills, organize materials, supervise bus transfers and field trips, and collaborate with staff while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Grade twelve education is required.
• Six college/university level courses related to learning/behavioral issues in children/youth.
• One year of related experience with children/youth with exceptional needs.
• May require a valid British Columbia driver’s license.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Performs general health procedures and assists with activities as directed.
• Assists students in gaining independence in life skills and monitors behavior.
• Supervises students during recess, lunch, before/after school, and between classes.
• Administers medication as assigned and notes observations.
• Organizes and prepares instructional materials and assists with field trips/special events.
• Reports safety concerns and supports a positive classroom environment.
