Job summary

An Inuit-owned educational company in Toronto is seeking an Editorial Project Manager / Editor to write, revise, and edit educational materials. This role involves overseeing projects through development and production and requires strong editing skills and at least two years of experience in publishing. Ideal candidates will have a passion for social justice and experience with Indigenous communities. The job is in-office, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

Job description

Inhabit Education is an Inuit-owned educational company that produces materials for students and teachers in Nunavut. We primarily publish in Inuktitut and English, as well as in French and Inuinnaqtun. Our mandate is to create educational materials that are culturally appropriate and grounded in pedagogical research and experience. The ideal candidate is located in Iqaluit or Toronto, with the ability to travel occasionally if needed.

We are seeking for an Editorial Project Manager / Editor to join our team! The EPM / Editor will write, revise, edit, etc. The successful candidate is required to be in the office Monday to Friday.

Working alongside the Managing Editor, this position will take on the following duties :

  • Writing, revising, and editing books and support documents according to levelling guidelines and plain-language principles.
  • Copy editing and proofreading a wide variety of resources for children and adults, including picture books, graphic novels, middle-grade novels, and young adult novels, textbooks, teaching guides, grant proposals, catalogues and other marketing material, course manuals, training presentations, and scripts for film and television.
  • Overseeing projects throughout development and production.
  • Completing some administrative duties as required.
Required skills and experience
  • At least two years of experience working in an editorial role, ideally in a publishing environment.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Interest in social justice and equity.
