Job description

Please read through the entire description!

The aerospace industry is among the fastest-growing industries worldwide. In 2024, the market size was estimated at 373.6 billion USD and is projected to double by 2034.

At Queen’s Aerospace Design Team (QADT), we are dedicated to pushing boundaries with the development of high-performance & autonomous UAVs for national and international competitions in Canada, Europe, and the United States. With the continued growth in industry aerospace applications in recent years, QADT has experienced unparalleled expansion, with a dedicated team of over 150 undergraduate students.

Last year, our technical team developed two new UAVs from scratch to compete at the AEAC 2025 student competition in Medicine Hat, Alberta. These include a fully carbon fiber fixed-wing aircraft with a two-axis gimbal for wildfire detection and mapping, and a heavy-lift quadcopter designed for autonomous water delivery for fire suppression. Concurrently, the research team authored two papers for submission to the IMAV conference and the VFS student design competition, focusing on DBD plasma actuators for airflow reattachment and hydrogen fuel cell-powered aircraft design for extended loitering time.

This year, we are advancing with new designs and initiatives, aiming to expand our capabilities and compete in both the AEAC 2026 and the AIAA Design, Build, Fly competition in Wichita, KS, while continuing to publish innovative research.

QADT offers a unique platform for students across disciplines to gain technical experience in Aeromechanics, Electrical, and Software fields, conduct research in diverse areas, and develop skills in business and management. We seek motivated individuals to help develop advanced drone technology and push the boundaries of student team achievements.

We look forward to your application.

‘Aviation is proof that given the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.’

— Eddie Rickenbacker, WWI flying ace

Moving forward, QADT is focusing on enhancing team operations and streamlining business processes, particularly increasing sponsorship income and outreach. The Business Operations Division comprises Sponsorship, Marketing, and Finance subdivisions.

The Finance Manager, as part of the Executive team, will develop a new budgeting system to improve the organization of purchase details, sponsorship & donation revenue, and financial planning. The role involves leading the Finance Sub-team and collaborating closely with the Director of Business Operations and technical teams to implement an efficient system.
