Job summary

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking an Early Learning Assistant (Extended Day Program) to provide childcare for students after school, during professional activity days and school breaks. Working under the direction of the Early Childhood Educator, you will support play, guide behaviour and model appropriate techniques.

A working knowledge of English is required and the role involves ensuring safety and positive engagement in a school setting.

Qualifications

• Completion of a High School diploma.
• Minimum one year post-secondary experience providing childcare to school-age children.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Valid Standard First Aid certification/CPR Level C from a WSIB approved provider is required.
• Police Record Check for the Vulnerable sector, valid within the last 6 months is required for new employees.
• Immunization Record with MMR and Tdap vaccination is required.
• Declaration of previously having the chicken pox or chicken pox immunization is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the provision of childcare to students after school and during breaks.
• Enhance child-based play and encourage positive behaviour.
• Support the Early Childhood Educator and help meet program objectives.

Overview

Summary :Working under the direction of the Early Childhood Educator, the Early Learning Assistant (Extended Day Program) assists in the provision of childcare to students after school (including professional activity day and school break periods); enhancing child-based play; encouraging and guiding, and modeling appropriatebehaviourtechniques. Performs other duties to support the overall objectives and goals of theprogram. Aworking knowledge of English is required.

Required Qualifications

• Completionof a High School diploma, and;
• Minimum one (1) year post-secondary experience providing childcare to school age children in a group setting;
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
• Valid Standard First Aid certification/CPRLevel C from a WSIB approved provider is required.
• Police Record Check for the Vulnerable sector,valid within the last 6 months is required for new employees to the OCDSB. Valid within the last 5 years for current OCDSB employees
• Immunization Record with MMR and Tdap vaccination is required.
• Declaration of previously having the chicken pox (or chicken pox immunization) is required.

Pay Expectations

$19.79 - $24.84 + 4\% vacation pay/hour.

Please note that at least 1 full year of ELA term or regular experience with the OCDSB is required for starting wage above $19.79 + 4\% vacation pay/hour.
