Job description

Work Term: Permanent

Work Language: English

Hours: 40 hours per week

Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a 1 to 2-year program

Experience: 1 to less than 2 years or equivalent experience

Work site environment:

  • Noisy
  • Non-smoking

Work setting:

  • Child care centre
  • Before and after school programs
  • Willing to relocate

Tasks:

  • Bathe, diaper, and feed infants and toddlers
  • Develop and implement child-care programs supporting physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development
  • Storytelling and reading stories
  • Supervise staff, trainees, or volunteers
  • Assist early childhood educators in carrying out developmental programs
  • Lead activities, teach songs, and organize outings
  • Order supplies and equipment
  • Help keep records and observe children for signs of learning or behavioral issues
  • Prepare reports and participate in staff meetings
  • Establish behavior guidelines and maintain a safe environment
  • Collaborate with co-workers and community service providers
  • Plan activities for school-age children before and after school hours
  • Supervise and coordinate other educators and assistants

Supervision: 5-10 people

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:

  • Child development supervisor (ECE level 3)
  • Plan to Protect training
  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate
  • First Aid Certificate
  • CPR Certificate

Target audience: Infants (3-11 months)

Experience with special needs children:

  • Children with behavioral issues
  • Children with allergies
  • Children with ADHD or ADD

Security and safety:

  • Criminal record check
  • Child Abuse Registry check
  • Medical exam
  • Immunization records
  • Tuberculosis test
  • Vulnerable sector check

Transportation / travel information: Public transportation available
