Job summary

SLR Consulting (Canada) Ltd in Whitehorse is seeking an Early Career Environmental Scientist/Engineer to contribute to environmental and remediation projects. You will participate in Phase I/II ESAs, lead fieldwork, and support planning, budgeting, and reporting for diverse sites from urban to remote oil and gas facilities.

You will assist with health and safety plans, collaborate with project teams, and gain exposure to full project life cycles while growing your technical expertise.

Qualifications

• Experience in contaminated site work incl. ESAs, soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation programs a plus.
• Passion for fieldwork and willingness to travel/stay away from home up to 2 weeks.
• Knowledge of health & safety requirements for oil/gas facilities and construction sites.

Responsibilities

• Participating in all facets of environmental or contaminated site projects including Phase I and II ESAs and remediation programs.
• Leading fieldwork programs involving sampling, monitoring, and remediation of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, sediment and surface water.
• Supporting project planning, coordination, reporting, and budget tracking.
• Preparing project-specific health and safety plans and assisting with technical reporting.

As our new Early Career Environmental Scientist / Engineer in Whitehorse you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal. Your passion for fieldwork and the environment will see you executing and leading a variety of programs related to the assessment, monitoring, management, and remediation of contaminated sites. No two days will be the same as you lead and support different aspects of varied projects at a range of urban and remote sites including upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas facilities, commercial and industrial properties, and federal and municipal owned sites. Your knowledge and experience will be invaluable to our team and will see you involved in the full life-cycle of projects as you assist the project manager with planning, budgeting, coordinating, and executing projects.

• Leading fieldwork programs involving sampling, monitoring, and remediation of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, sediment and surface water
• Supporting project planning, coordination, reporting, and budget tracking
• Preparing project‑specific health and safety plan
• Assisting with technical reporting and financial proposal preparation

Qualifications

• Minimum of a degree or a technical diploma in environmental science, engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or environmental related studies
• Experience in contaminated site work, including but not limited to environmental site assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation programs, a considerable asset
• Passion for fieldwork and availability to work away from home, potentially for up to 2 weeks at a time on occasion.
• Knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to oil and gas facilities, construction sites, subsurface investigations, and contaminated sites
• Ability to work independently, in small teams, and in remote locations, and ability to adapt to variable conditions and resources.
• Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., E.I.T., G.I.T., P.Tech, etc.) is an asset
• Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites
