Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the development and implementation of reliability plans for new product development to ensure attainment of specified operational reliability objectives. Applies advanced skills to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently. Display a high level of critical thinking in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-functional problems. Primary activities include:

  • Reliability Planning, Reliability Allocation, Reliability Failure Modeling, Sub-assembly Life Testing, System Reliability Growth Testing and System Reliability Demonstration Testing.
  • Provides leadership, training and support to less senior Reliability Engineers and support staff. Displays a high degree of competence in all areas of Reliability Engineering.
  • Develops Reliability Plans to ensure that project Reliability Requirements are met in accordance with department standards. Allocates reliability targets to key sub-assembly to ensure that the overall targets are met.
  • Attends team meetings and design reviews and advises and confers with engineers to give reliability findings and recommendations.
  • Reviews engineering specifications and drawings, proposing design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements.
  • Leading design teams through Reliability Failure Modeling evaluations and driving corrective actions to reduce the identified risks.
  • Uses advanced reliability tools and statistical methods when needed such as statistical confidence, hypothesis testing, goodness of fit tests, analysis of variance, Bayesian statistics, Poisson Process, Markov Diagrams, Petri-Nets.
  • Applies Six-Sigma methodology to reliability problem solving and routinely uses Six-Sigma and other statistical problem solving tools such as Quality Function Deployment, Process Mapping, Cause and Effect Diagrams, Measurement System Analysis, Process Capability Studies, Process Control Charts, Full Factorial and Taguchi Design Of Experiments.
  • Creates complex custom databases for reliability data analysis. Automates the user interface and functionality to allow others in the department to easily use the databases.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (BEng/BSc) in an Engineering discipline from a four-year college or university and at least eight (8) years related mechanical reliability experience.

OR

Equivalent combination of an Associate Degree in an Engineering discipline and more than twenty years related experience.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% within North America and potential travel overseas.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Member of a professional Engineering Institution. Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent desirable.
  • Certified Reliability Engineer desirable.
