Overview

Under the direction of the Branch Manager or Supervisor, the Truck Driver - AZ operates a tandem or multi-axle configuration truck for delivery and/or pick-up of agronomy products (fertilizer, grain, seed, chemicals), following specified time schedules. This role involves the safe operation of an assigned motor vehicle and adherence to transportation standards, regulations and laws. A Class AZ driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  • Operates assigned vehicle(s), single or tandem axle configuration, forklifts, etc., in accordance with established safety standards and proper vehicle operation techniques.
  • Performs and records daily safety checks of the vehicle(s) and equipment (pre-trip inspections), checks fuel and oil levels, tires, lights, and brakes; follows preventative maintenance and keeps a clean truck for a professional appearance.
  • Loads and unloads containers, pallets, or materials safely on trucks, trailers, or railcars by hand or with a forklift; ensures loads are balanced and compliant with axle weights and Ministry of Transportation regulations.
  • Delivers and picks up items according to time schedules and provides superior customer service and professionalism.
  • Completes documentation such as bills of lading, delivery slips and invoices accurately and returns them to the branch to ensure timely invoicing and payment.
  • Maintains accurate daily logs and records of cargo and other record-keeping duties.

Other Job Functions

  • Ensures annual inspections and licenses/permits for the vehicle are current and stored in the vehicle.
  • Follows GROWMARK Workplace Health, Safety & Environmental policies; complies with OHSA requirements and reports hazards or contraventions as applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of experience and training for safe operation of transportation equipment. AZ license and applicable training; a clean driving abstract and ability to maintain insurability.
  • Demonstrates safe driving techniques and the ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle safely in adverse conditions; ability to manage time for cost-efficient routes and timely deliveries.
  • Ability to read maps and bills of lading, follow delivery directions and safety procedures, make accurate daily driving log entries, and communicate in English with customers and employees.
  • Demonstrates basic math skills and basic computer skills as related to the position.
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter and as part of a team.

  • Must be able to obtain various licenses, permits, and/or certificates as required.
  • Willingness to be trained in GROWMARK’s Workplace Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures, including Accident Reporting, Emergency Response Plan, Fire Safety, General Safety Rules, Health & Safety Rights, Health & Safety Roles and Responsibilities, Safe Manual Lifting, Slips Trips and Falls, and WHMIS.
  • May be required to be trained in additional areas (Chemical Handling and Spills Response, CPPI, Defensive Driving, Driver Training, Fuel Spills Response, Respirator Fit Testing, ROT, TDG, Working at Heights).
  • May be required to work extended hours, particularly during peak seasons.
Job Specifications

Mental Effort

The incumbent works independently within established policies and procedures. Mental and visual concentration is needed when following safety rules and procedures. Unusual problems are referred to the Branch Manager or Supervisor.

The role may involve moderate to high mental stress when maintaining timely delivery schedules and handling customer requests.

Physical Effort

Drivers may need to load/unload freight, requiring manual lifting up to 50 lbs., occasionally up to 100 lbs.

Physical demands include standing or sitting for extended periods, repetitive motions, climbing (12–15 feet), crawling, bending, and reaching to inspect equipment or load/unload products.

Working Conditions

Environmental conditions vary; exposure to noise, odors, and varied surfaces. There is a minor risk of injury from lifting and handling freight, with PPE such as gloves and safety equipment required as appropriate.

This position may be exposed to dust, chemicals, fumes and smells from fuels which may lead to headaches or skin irritation. Year-round driving and varying weather conditions apply.

CSA-approved safety boots are mandatory; additional PPE may be required.

Benefits and Additional Information

Salary range: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour.
