Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is seeking a full-time driver who will also serve as an Arborist Assistant. You will ensure crew and equipment arrive safely and on time, join the crew on site, and support pruning, removal, and installation of tree support systems.

Training and advancement opportunities are provided. The role requires a provincial AZ or DZ license, a background in forestry or horticulture, and a willingness to pursue arborist certification.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license; AZ or DZ license required.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping preferred.
• Arborist certification or willingness to pursue.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Ability to safely ascend tree canopies at various heights.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Teamwork oriented; eager to learn and progress.

Responsibilities

• Drive a commercial truck with crew and equipment to job sites.
• Perform and log daily pre- and post-trip inspections.
• Maintain cleanliness of the truck interior and exterior.
• Operate as an active crew member with ground crew and lead.
• Perform tree pruning and removal safely and skillfully.
• Install cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Remove hazardous trees; use and maintain tools and equipment.
• Assist with job-site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by Davey safety policies and procedures.

Position Overview

As a driver with Davey Tree you will be responsible for ensuring the crew and equipment arrive at the job site safely and on time. Once at site you will join the rest of the crew as an Arborist Assistant; providing your in-depth knowledge and skills to ensure the job gets done right and on time.

Job Duties

• Drive a commercial truck with crew and equipment to various job sites as required.
• Perform and log daily pre and post trip inspections of the vehicle.
• Maintain cleanliness of the truck, keeping interior and exterior of vehicle free of debris.
• Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and crew leader.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.

Including but not limited to:

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Removal of hazardous trees.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping.
• Arborist certification or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Understanding and implementation of the process of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $20-$25/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
