Overview

Your role

• Plan, co‑ordinate, and supervise an engineering section that tackles a technical issue or several smaller engineering assignments with complex features requiring the application of intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in related fields.
• Review technical documents prepared by supervised employees.
• Prepare inputs into and monitor budgets, estimates, schedules, and work packages. Coordinate with other groups as required to establish interfaces.
• Use advanced techniques and/or modify theories, precepts, guides and practices in his/her own field.
• Modify established guides, devise new approaches and form conclusions from comparable situations.
• Represent the section in meetings dealing with problem resolution and the planning and coordination of work. May be delegated to represent the branch or department on occasion.
• Review recommendations for soundness of judgment; modifications to standard designs and decisions are subject to management review.
• Supervise, coordinate and review the work of engineers and support employees; estimate and monitor schedules and assign work to meet completion dates.
• Provide input or make recommendations to management with respect to performance appraisal of and leave for employees supervised and may be called upon to provide input or make recommendations concerning selection, training and discipline.

About you

• A relevant Engineering or science degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience;
• Must be conversant with computer environments; proficiency in both Linux and WINDOWS environments is a strong asset;
• Broad knowledge of thermal‑fluid sciences (fluid flow, heat transfer, multi‑phase flow and thermodynamics);
• Familiarity and experience with some of the safety and licensing computer codes such as CATHENA, NUCIRC, GOTHIC and MAAP;
• Proficiency in computer programming, especially FORTRAN, is desirable;
• Good knowledge of the CANDU design, with particular emphasis on the heat transport system (HTS) and plant control, containment and moderator systems would be an asset;
• Experience in licensing activities would also be an asset;
• Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in meetings and workshops.
