Unit Summary

The Pharmacy Department at the Juravinski Cancer Centre effectively manages drug therapy for positive patient outcomes and is committed to oncology pharmaceutical care. Patient focused health care empowers pharmacist participation in both retail and general oncology settings. Working toward integration with the primary care teams, this allows for maximization of the pharmacists clinical role and provides enhanced pharmacy technician roles in drug distribution.

Position Summary

As a Drug Access Facilitator in the retail pharmacy, the incumbent will act as an advocate for the patient, working with them to secure drug funding and financial assistance through ODB, private insurance, and manufacturer-sponsored compassionate programs. The Drug Access Facilitator will liaise with the prescriber and pharmacy to ensure that all required documentation is in place, and will assist with coordinating delivery of medications when required. The Drug Access Facilitator will also identify patients who have their prescriptions filled at specialty pharmacies in an effort to have them transfer their non-compassionate prescriptions to the retail pharmacy.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years prior retail pharmacy experience (within the last 5 years)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Kroll Computer System
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with patients and members of the general public on issues of professional practice
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
  • Experience in Chemotherapy preparation an asset
  • Hospital pharmacy experience preferred
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail systems are an asset
