What you’ll do:

As a driver trainer you need to ensure that all drivers are properly trained on the operation of Messer vehicles including trucks, tractors, forklifts, platform and on cargo securing, safe handling of cylinders and administration processes as required. You will support the review and evaluation of drivers who are high risk. You will coordinate and facilitate training through classroom sessions and hands‑on instruction to train new and existing class X (appropriate to applicable Canadian provinces) commercial drivers emphasizing safety, policies and procedures, cylinder handling and non‑driving administrative processes / software.

  • Must work in collaboration with the lead driver‑trainer under the supervision of the fleet director
  • Lead and/or assist the Retail Managers and HSEQ Managers with Driver Safety
  • Conduct remedial or specialized training for drivers identified as "At‑Risk".
  • Coordinate and facilitate forklift training for all users requiring a license as well as re‑certification training as prescribed
  • Stay abreast of relevant federal, provincial and local regulations and company policies that pertain to fleet safety and the transportation of hazardous materials cascaded by the HSEQ, Regulatory and Compliance Manager, Retail and Logistic Managers.
  • Support and provide training and education for non‑drivers who require expertise in transportation, product handling and hazardous materials.

  • Support deployment of campaigns (alert, new directives) and training of new technologies (like CMS – Collision Mitigation System)
Required key skills and competencies
  • Broad understanding of distribution/transportation function
  • Extensive driving experience in transportation and industrial gas
  • Excellent training
  • Basic knowledge of federal, provincial, Law 430, and local hazardous material
  • Excellent coaching
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to develop effective training
  • Organizational skills must be able to manage time and work alone, self‑motivated.
  • Familiar with preventive maintenance programs
Required qualifications/experience
  • High school education or above
  • Driving large commercial vehicles
  • 5 years in the transportation industry
  • Competency with function specific vehicles and/or equipment
  • 2 years Messer employment (to secure a background in the company's practical operations).
  • Ability to Travel to sites as needed (up to 50%)
