Driver, Light Vehicle – Pacific Region

Department: National Defence (DND)

Locations: Comox, BC and Esquimalt, BC

Closing date: December 15, 2025 23:59 (Pacific Time)

Salary: $26.38 – $28.67 per hour

About the position

As a Driver of light vehicles you will transport personnel, equipment and supplies to support DND and Canadian Armed Forces missions. The role includes operating vehicles, performing basic maintenance, and maintaining required logs and documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Operate passenger and light‑vehicle equipment safely.
  • Transport personnel, equipment & supplies.
  • Perform vehicle inspections, maintain logs and carry out basic maintenance.
  • Wear approved PPE and adhere to safety regulations.
  • Respond to standby, overtime, weekend, night and statutory holiday assignments.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the Code of Conduct.
Essential qualifications
  • Occupational certification: Valid unrestrictive Class 5 driver’s licence in British Columbia.
  • Experience:
    • Driving passenger vehicles up to 15 passengers.
    • Operating 5‑ton trucks.
    • Snow‑clearing & snow‑and‑ice‑control operations.
  • English (Essential) and French (Essential).
  • Willingness to obtain a Top‑Secret security clearance if required.
  • Willingness to sit and operate vehicles for 4‑5 hours and climb in/out of vehicles.
  • Adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values & Ethics.
Asset qualifications (optional)
  • Occupational certifications: Class 3 or Class 4 licences with air‑brake endorsement.
  • Experience securing/unloading cargo, maintaining logs and vehicle inspections.
  • Experience with road maintenance, mixed military/civilian environments.
  • Strong communication skills.
Conditions of employment
  • Reliability & security clearance requirements (Top‑Secret possible).
  • Willingness to work standby, overtime, weekends, nights, and statutory holidays.
  • Willingness to wear approved safety footwear and PPE.
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding tasks up to 25 kg.
