Summary

This position is responsible for safely driving Box Trucks (16ft - 26ft) as well as Stake Beds, Cargo Vans, Pickup Trucks, and similar vehicles on streets and highways to pick up electronics for recycling. Loading and towing specialty equipment to job sites and operating it safely. Packaging and loading electronics at customer locations and supporting recycling operations when not on the road with loading/unloading, moving, weighing, and sorting electronic equipment. Representing the professionalism and quality of Homeboy Electronics Recycling in all interactions with customers.

Responsibilities
  • Complete company QEHS training
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment at all times
  • Identify and avoid hazards while performing job duties
  • Adhere to company data security policies and protocols for data storage devices
  • Limit and prevent damage to valuable equipment
  • Operate motor vehicles with a “safety first” attitude
  • Load and tow specialty equipment (e.g., hard drive shredder and generator) to job sites
  • Use GPS and map routing software to efficiently navigate between customer locations
  • Keep vehicle cabin and exterior clean and presentable
  • Maintain vehicle fluids at proper levels
  • Ensure vehicle service schedules are followed
  • Ensure compliance with vehicle load limits and roadway restrictions
  • Report known or potential mechanical issues with vehicles to management as soon as identified
  • Communicate with logistics team and management on routing and best practices for various types of pickups and dropoffs
  • Interface with customers about the e‑waste collection and recycling process as needed, demonstrating a courteous, confident, and knowledgeable demeanor (training provided)
  • Work alone or with colleagues to lift, carry, stack, and package various electronic equipment safely, securely, and without damage to the equipment or surrounding property
  • Sort and label items onsite to facilitate the receiving process later
  • Perform onsite hard drive shredding and other requested services as needed
  • Load/unload vehicles using pallet jacks, lift gates, forklifts, and other equipment
  • Ensure special requests and requirements are communicated and understood in the receiving/shipping process
  • Lead removal of equipment from vehicles
  • Ensure client equipment is received properly
  • Ensure client paperwork and documentation is completed accurately and is signed off by and received by the proper departments
  • Communicate arrival and departure times with Quality Assurance Manager
  • After arriving at the client’s location, estimate the time it will take your team to complete the job.
  • Confirm all estimates with the Director of Quality Assurance when times exceed 90 minutes or vary more than 30 minutes from provided estimates.
  • When not on the road, support other operations of the recycling division, including: receiving, sorting, dismantling, shipping, forklift operation, etc.
  • Keep workstation and surrounding area clean and organized
  • Report ideas for increased warehouse efficiency and/or safety
Basic Qualifications/Requirements
  • Ability to pass extensive background check and/or security clearances required to achieve certain certifications and/or to access secure customer locations
  • Ability to pass drug screening
  • Ability to get to varying job sites in LA county independently and on‑time
  • Ability to work both independently, with initiative, and as an effective member of a team
  • Willingness to learn and grow
  • Valid California driver’s license with exceptional driving safety record
  • Experience driving trucks over 16 feet in length
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach overhead, and push and pull without physical injury
  • Ability to safely use pallet jacks, hand, and power tools
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Basic math and computer skills

Additional Position Information
  • Classification: Non‑Exempt (Hourly), according to FLSA guidelines.

  • Other: This position may include occasional travel within the greater Los Angeles area and elsewhere in California or other states. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be necessary.
  • Work Conditions: Warehouse environment, including regular standing and sitting. Some exposure to environments with occasional loud noises from machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • Physical Requirements: Lifting of approximately 25‑50 pounds.
