NATURE AND SCOPE

The Driver/Heavy Vehicle Operator (HEO) reports to the Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for the safe operation of a range of equipment, maintaining gravel surfaces and maintaining roads and the airfield.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide safe, efficient, and effective provision of driving and HEO services
• Operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner
• Perform HEO tasks including maintenance of surface drainage, soil erosion control, maintenance of gravel surfaces, domestic SNIC operations and other SNIC requirements
• Repair roads, conduct airfield SNIC and maintain airfield surfaces
• Operate aircraft handling equipment, load/upload aircraft
• Inspect airfield surfaces and perform minor repairs to these surfaces as needed
• Complete and submit all PM/CM WOs to the Administrative Assistant for input into the appropriate maintenance management system

CERTIFICATE(S) / LICENSE(S)

• Qualified in accordance with current Nunavut regulations or must be registered in DND FMS with Driver/Examiner Qualification to operate the equipment on site including but not limited to: Loader, Excavator, Grader, Passenger Bus, Dozer, Forklift, Dump Truck, De-Icer truck etc.
• Must have a valid provincial license for a minimum gross vehicle weight of 11,000 kg with air brake endorsement
• Must have valid Airfield RAMP DC qualification
• Willing to take mandatory aircraft de-icing training to qualify according to applicable Transport Canada publication
• Must be qualified to operate vehicles containing hazardous materials
• Must be trained on driving with an attached trailer and safe backing
• Must be eligible for a valid DND 404 Driver Permit
• Requires Government of Canada Reliability security clearance
• Requires valid Canadian passport
• Must pass a medical examination

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 1 year experience operating each type of vehicle listed

WHAT WE OFFER

• Fly-In Fly-Out Schedule: 8 weeks on site, 8 weeks off site rotation. Travel from home to site is paid from any location in Canada, with overnight stays in Thule, Greenland, as required.
