Job summary

Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre, Community Support Services (CSS) is seeking a Driver to provide safe, door-to-door transportation for seniors and adults with disabilities within the Ottawa area.

The role requires a G license, a clean driving record, and the ability to communicate fluently in English and French. The position supports activities during days, evenings and weekends and involves vehicle inspections, paperwork, and a focus on timely, courteous service.

Qualifications

• Secondary school education preferred.
• Valid driver's license 'G' (Licence 'F' is an asset).
• Must submit and maintain a favourable criminal reference check.
• Minimum 3 years driving experience with a clean Ministry of Transportation driver record.
• Must be at least 25 years of age.
• Fluency in English and French; French language skill mandatory.
• Ability and comfort working with seniors and adults with a disability.

Responsibilities

• Operate agency vehicles; assist clients into/out of vehicles and with assistive devices.
• Perform vehicle maintenance duties and other related duties.
• Safely transport eligible clients to/from appointments on time.
• Perform both scheduled and non-scheduled drives as assigned.
• Pre/post trip vehicle inspections; report issues to Transportation Services Coordinator.
• Contact client to confirm pickup time and location.
• Escort client to car and accompany to appointment if required; return home.
• Complete required paperwork (mileage, timesheets, etc.).
• Ensure vehicles are clean and sanitized.
• Report concerns or suggestions to Transportation Services Coordinator.
• Participate in centre-wide activities and committees to support operations.

Nature of the work

The Driver provides safe, reliable, efficient, effective on time and courteous transportation to seniors and adults with a disability to and from their appointment to essential services (i.e. medical) in a safe manner using the agency’s vehicles. The Driver provides door-to-door, individualized service during the day, evenings, and weekends. The Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre, Community Support Services (CSS) offer programs and services, in partnership with volunteers and drivers, to promote, enhance and support the well‑being and independence of both seniors and adults with physical disabilities in the Eastern Ottawa area. The driver’s support helps seniors and adults with physical disabilities to continue to live in their own homes.

Responsibilities

• Operate various agency vehicles; physically assisting clients, into and out of vehicles and folding and lifting assistive devices, as needed.
• Perform vehicle maintenance duties and other related duties.
• Safely transport eligible clients to/from their appointments on time.
• Perform both scheduled and non-scheduled drives as assigned.
• Perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections to ensure optimal vehicle safety. Report any problem resulting from the circle check to the Transportation Services Coordinator.
• Contact the client to confirm pick up time.
• Pick up the client at the appointed time, escort them to the car, accompany them to the appointment (if required) and take the client home.
• Complete the required paperwork for the drive(s), e.g., mileage record, timesheets, etc.
• Ensure vehicles remain clean and sanitized.
• Report any concerns, irregularities, or suggestions of other services the client may need to the Transportation Services Coordinator.
• Actively participate in centre wide activities and committees to promote and sustain the successful operations of the centre.

What we would like to find in you

• Secondary school education preferred.
• Valid drivers’ license “G”; licence “F” is an asset.
• Must submit and maintain a favourable criminal reference check.
• Minimum 3 years driving experience with a clean Ministry of Transportation driver record (driver abstract required).
• Must be at least 25 years of age (for insurance).
• No known health conditions that may impair driving safety.
• Fluency in oral and written communication skills in English and French. French language skill is mandatory.
• Ability and comfort working with seniors and adults with a disability.
• Ability to work independently.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, good decision making, and exhibit flexibility.
• Adjust to changing procedures and schedules.
