Job summary

A leading energy company is seeking a Drilling Engineer for a major oil & gas client in Calgary, Alberta. The role involves designing drilling programs, monitoring operations, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in Petroleum Engineering and 5-10 years of drilling experience. This position offers a one-year contract with a possibility of extension.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of relevant drilling engineering experience in oil & gas exploration and production.
  • Proven track record in horizontal, directional, and multi-well pad drilling operations.
  • Experience with unconventional and/or conventional plays in Western Canada is highly desirable.

NSB Omega is searching for a Drilling Engineer for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in Calgary, AB

Assignment Description

Design and plan drilling programs, including well trajectories, casing design, mud programs, and bit selection.

Prepare detailed well proposals, cost estimates, and AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) documents.

Monitor daily drilling operations and provide technical support to field personnel to ensure program compliance and performance optimization.

Conduct risk assessments and implement well control and safety management procedures.

Evaluate drilling performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in cost, time, and safety.

Collaborate closely with geoscientists, completions engineers, and production teams to ensure well objectives are met.

Interface with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and other jurisdictional requirements.

Manage service contractors, evaluate bids, and oversee vendor performance.

Provide post-well analysis and contribute to lessons-learned documentation.

Support technology implementation and digital initiatives aimed at improving drilling efficiency and sustainability.

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with APEGA.
Experience
  • 5–10 years of relevant drilling engineering experience in oil & gas exploration and production.
  • Proven track record in horizontal, directional, and multi-well pad drilling operations.
  • Experience with unconventional (shale/tight oil) and/or conventional plays in Western Canada is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with drilling optimization software, well planning tools (e.g., Landmark, WellPlan, Compass), and data analytics systems.
