Job summary

WSP is seeking a detail-oriented CAD Technician to join the Ontario Highway Design Team with base offices in Ottawa, Thornhill, or Mississauga. The role involves delivering multidiscipline highway design projects and supporting the CAD and data management workflow across teams.

You'll work with InRoads/OpenRoads/MicroStation/Civil 3D/AutoCAD and BIM tools, ensuring drawings reflect current standards and are delivered on time. The position supports a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or related field.
  • Work experience in highway/roadway design.
  • Familiarity with project collaboration tools such as SharePoint.
  • BIM experience is an asset.
  • Registered with OACETT is an asset.
  • Intent to be a Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist in Ontario when eligible.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Team player with collaborative mindset.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving digital technologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Valid G Driver’s license is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Train in all aspects of highway and drainage design using InRoads, OpenRoads, MicroStation, Project Wise, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, AutoTurn, MS Project, Excel and BIM software.
  • Prepare and maintain 2D/3D CAD drawings for highways, bridges, and municipal projects.
  • Coordinate with project teams to reflect current information and standards.
  • Maintain drawing standards, file naming conventions, and folder structures.
  • Conduct quality control reviews for compliance with client and regulatory standards.
  • Support digital terrain modeling and survey data integration.
  • Upload and manage large CAD files on SharePoint, ProjectWise, and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Respond to information requests and provide updates to PMs/external partners.
  • Participate in design meetings and provide technical input.
  • Implement feedback from reviews to improve deliverables.

WSP is currently seeking a detail‑oriented and collaborative CAD Technician to join our Ontario Highway Design Team with their base office in one of three locations (Ottawa, Thornhill, or Mississauga). The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of multidiscipline highway design projects (ranging from low traffic volume two lane secondary highways to high traffic volume multi-lane freeways).

Your Impact
  • Be trained in all aspects of the technical delivery of highway and drainage designs, including design software such as but not limited to; InRoads, OpenRoads, MicroStation, Project Wise, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, AutoTurn, Microsoft Project, Excel, BIM Software (Navisworks, Dynamo, Power BI) etc.
  • Prepare, revise, and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for highways, bridges, and municipal infrastructure projects using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and/or ORD.
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure all drawings reflect the most current information and standards.
  • Maintain drawing standards, file naming conventions, and folder structures for efficient project delivery.
  • Conduct quality control reviews to ensure technical compliance and adherence to client and regulatory standards.
  • Support digital terrain modeling and integration of survey data as required.
  • Upload and manage large CAD files on SharePoint, ProjectWise, Autodesk Construction Cloud or other project collaboration platforms.
  • Respond to requests for information and provide timely updates to project managers and external partners.
  • Participate in internal and external design meetings, providing technical input and ensuring alignment across disciplines.
  • Implement feedback from project reviews and client comments to continuously improve deliverables.

Compensation
  • AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $89 800 – $118 900
  • MB & ON: $81 900 – $112 800
  • NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $81 100 – $107 700
