Job summary

Cancer Care Alberta seeks a Dosimetrist II to join the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Alberta. The DSII will handle external beam planning (3D conformal, Field in Field, IMRT/VMAT) and MR-guided planning, with a hybrid work-from-home option.

Start date negotiable and relocation reimbursement available. You will mentor staff and contribute to clinical trials, with a multidisciplinary team of over 100 professionals in Radiation Therapy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy or equivalent with CAMRT certification.
• Minimum 6 months experience in a radiation therapy department.
• Completion of Canadian Dosimetry Certificate (CDC) or CMD designation is required; in-progress considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide external beam treatment planning for all sites (3D conformal, Field in Field, IMRT/VMAT).
• Collaborate with medical physicist and Radiation Oncologist for dose calculations and parameter selection.

Your Opportunity: Cancer Care Alberta is looking for a highly motivated Dosimetrist II (DSII) to join our patient-focused and collaborative radiation therapy treatment planning program at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) in Edmonton Alberta CANADA. Reporting to the Manager, Radiation Therapy, the DSII will join an amazing team comprised of over 100 multidisciplinary staff committed to excellence in service delivery and improved outcomes for cancer patients. The CCI is the highest volume tertiary cancer center in Alberta, providing treatment to over 5500 new patients annually with eight Varian linear accelerators, one HDR after loader and two CT Simulators. We specialize in advanced treatment techniques that include SBRT, Linac based SRS, LDR and HDR brachytherapy as well as access to Gamma Knife and the made-in-Alberta AuroraRT Linac MR. MR Simulator and Varian Ethos will be added to the CCI clinical fleet over the next year. Specific responsibilities of the DSII will include external beam treatment planning for all sites (3D conformal, Field in Field, Inverse Planning including static field IMRT and VMAT, Lung SBRT and Electron Beam planning) and MR-guided brachytherapy. The experienced DSII has potential to expand their SBRT planning responsibilities, participate in clinical trials and take on a resource role to provide site-specific subject matter expertise and mentorship within the broader Radiation Oncology program. The dynamic treatment planning environment at the CCI requires the DSII to provide on-site expertise for the RT team, but a hybrid work from home model is available to offer flexibility. Start date is negotiable and reimbursement for relocation expenses is available as per Alberta Health Services policy.

Description

As a Dosimetrist IIA, you will provide subject matter expertise of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of Radiation Oncology treatment, machines/equipment and procedures commonly used in Radiation Therapy and Brachytherapy. Your experience and technical knowledge will be instrumental in developing the delivery plan for radiation treatments, selecting radiation energy and other treatment parameters for the approval of the Radiation Oncologist. You will generate radiation dose calculation and distribution in collaboration with the medical physicist and Radiation Oncologist. You will also be responsible for training and mentoring new staff, rotational staff, residents, and Radiation Therapy students.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree of Science in Radiation Therapy or completion of Medical Radiation Therapy diploma and Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) certification, or equivalent. Six (6) months of experience in a radiation therapy department.

Additional Required Qualifications

Completion of the Canadian Dosimetry Certificate (CDC) or Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) designation is required. Candidates with equivalent experience and designation in progress may be considered. Minimum one year experience in treatment planning/Dosimetry with current working expertise in 3D conformal and VMAT planning.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with complex (SBRT) VMAT, brachytherapy and adaptive treatment planning. Systems used include Varian ARIA RO (Eclipse TPS, Velocity, HyperArc), Elekta Oncentra Brachytherapy Planning, Sun Nuclear Suncheck, EZ Fluence, DirectOrgans and EPIC Connect Care EMR. Experience with these applications would be considered an asset.
