Job description
Overview

SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The District Mechanic Operator II performs duties associated with plant, gas line and storage operations and maintenance in accordance with standards, specifications and accepted industry practices, including implementing sound decisions in emergency situations.

Position Details
  • Union - This position is permanent full time.

Core Responsibilities

Plant Maintenance

  • Maintain and repair compressor drives, compressors and associated plant and storage infrastructure.

  • Maintain station operating units and auxiliary equipment.

  • Identify equipment and parts needed.

  • Obtain clearance from operating staff and gas control for minor and major maintenance requirements.

Plant Operating

  • Operate compressor drives, compressors and associated plant and storage infrastructure.

  • Inspect and assess station operating units and auxiliary equipment and take any follow-up action required to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.

  • Inspect and assess instruments, controls and emergency equipment and take any follow-up action required to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.

  • Carry out operating orders and gas control centre requirements to maintain system gas flows and pressures.

  • Interpret and calculate information from charts, computer applications and measurement instruments and prepare and process logs, forms and reports as required.

  • Conduct a variety of tests in accordance with the established contract specifications of natural gas and recovered by-products in order to meet and initiate corrective measures, if required this may include dewpointing, sample gathering, etc.

  • Inspect the work performed by contractors and others to ensure compliance with instructions, standards and specifications.

Gas Line Operating and Maintenance

  • Perform gas line operation duties with respect to line locating, foreign crossings, hot taps, hot tie ins, block valve operation, gas line integrity projects, etc.

  • Coordinate and/or participate in gas line integrity digs, cleaning runs, electronic tool runs and re-coating of gas line to ensure integrity of the gas line system.

  • Maintain gas line infrastructure such as signs, valves, buildings, rectifiers, etc.

  • Check, report and participate in the settlement of property and damage claims.

Administration and Training
  • Utilize programs and procedures that organize, coordinate and schedule work assignments and maintain operating records.

  • As the qualified incumbent, oversee the work of the other employees/contractors as assigned to ensure work is performed in accordance with instructions, standards and specifications.

  • As a Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Mechanic), may be required to mentor apprentice personnel.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • Provincial or Interprovincial Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate or Provincial or Interprovincial Journeyperson Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (Heavy Duty Mechanic) Certificate.

  • Physically fit (documented by a doctor’s certificate recognizing job requirements).

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.

Alternative Qualifications

Positions will be bulletined as District Mechanic Operator II. If there are no qualified applicants an applicant may be selected and appointed as a District Mechanic Operator Apprentice based on the following:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • Entrance requirements in accordance with the Provincial Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Standards for the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) journeyperson certificate.

  • Pre-Qualifying Assessment.

  • Physically Fit (documented by a doctor’s certificate recognizing job requirements)

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Additional Information
  • This job is routinely scheduled for standby.

  • This job requires extended work hours.

  • Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required.

  • This job is subject to call-out situations.

  • This job is safety sensitive, and as such, is subject to the provisions of the Drug and Alcohol Policy (Pre-Employment or Pre-Placement for Safety Sensitive Positions).
