Job summary

Nechako Lakes School District is seeking a District Counsellor for a 1.0 Continuing Position serving Vanderhoof and area schools. The role requires travel to outlying communities and delivery of a comprehensive counselling program across grade levels.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor of Education, a valid BC teaching certificate, and a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology, with experience in managing behaviour disorders and collaboration with district staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education and BC teaching certificate with current membership in the Ministry of Education and Childcare.
  • Graduate degree recognized by the Teacher Regulation Branch in Counseling Psychology.
  • Experience working with behaviour disorders in children and adolescents.
  • Willing to work with district personnel and administration to deliver a counselling program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive counselling program at all grade levels.
  • Collaborate with district inclusive education personnel, counsellors, teachers, and administration.
  • Travel to different schools in outlying communities as required.
  • Differentiate instruction to create learning success for each student.
  • Integrate appropriate technologies into instructional practices to improve outcomes.

Salary: $64,341.00 - $121,722.00 + ($3500.00 recruitment and retention allowance and $6943.90

counselling allowance)

The School District

Nechako Lakes is situated on the traditional unceded territories of fourteen First Nations encompassing the Dakelh, Nedut'en and Wet'suwet'en peoples. The school district encompasses five municipalities, the Districts of Fort St James and Vanderhoof and the Villages of Fraser Lake, Burns Lake and Granisle. This large area served by our school district has a population of just under 40,000 residents in the beautiful north central BC.

We serve 3,000 students in our standard schools and approximately 900 FTE at EBUS Academy, one of the largest online schools in British Columbia. Our region has affordable housing, welcoming communities and a lower cost of living than many other regions. Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education
  • A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership with The Ministry of Education and Childcare.
  • Have completed a graduate degree recognized by the Teacher Regulation Branch in Counseling Psychology.
  • Strong evidence of experience working with behaviour disorders in children and adolescents.
  • Must be willing to work in a supportive and cooperative manner with existing district inclusive education personnel, counsellors, regular teaching staff, and administration in the delivery of a comprehensive counselling program at all grade levels, as well as work in support of district directions and undertakings
  • Must be willing to become familiar with changing child abuse reporting regulations and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in administration of suicide risk assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the counseling role, willingness to build experience in developing I.E.P.s in the provision of individualized programs for students exhibiting emotional and behavioural disorders.
  • Experience teaching Social Skills programs to students with a wide range of abilities.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and a keen interest in exploring alternate, innovative and collaborative methods of working with students and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a positive classroom learning environment that engages students in active learning experiences.
  • Experience in differentiating instruction to create success in learning for each student.
  • experience in integrating appropriate technologies into instructional practices in order to improve learning outcomes for students
