Job summary

Cogir Senior Living in Ottawa, Ontario, is seeking a dedicated Dishwasher to join our kitchen team. You will load, operate and empty dishwashers, keep surfaces clean, and support safe, sanitary meal service for residents.

The role requires empathy for the elderly, ability to follow procedures, read and write English, and a commitment to teamwork, punctuality and quality. Training and respectful collaboration with staff and residents are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Must have empathy for and ability to get along with the elderly and the handicapped.
• Ability to understand and follow proper food handling and storage procedures.
• Ability to understand and follow directions to serve food correctly and attractively.
• Able to read and write English for clear communication and records.
• Must work accurately and quickly in a fast-paced kitchen setting.

Responsibilities

• Load, operate and empty dishwashers; put dishes away after cleaning.
• Maintain a clean cooking area including tables, stoves, ovens, grills and storage spaces.
• Damp mop floors to keep areas safe and sanitary.
• Clean other kitchen equipment such as blenders and refrigerators.
• Perform duties with cleanliness in mind and adhere to standards.
• Respect Resident Rights & Responsibilities while delivering service.
• Attend in-service training to support dietary needs of residents.
• Join staff meetings to stay informed about residence changes.
• Participate in the Quality Improvement Program.
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
• Uphold and promote the organization’s ethics, morality and integrity.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Reporting to the Culinary Manager, the Dishwasher is responsible for the loading, operating and emptying of the dishwasher, in addition to ensuring all kitchen equipment and surfaces are kept clean and operational.

Key Responsibilities

• To load, operate and empty dishwashers, putting the dishes away;
• To maintain a clean cooking area, including work table surfaces, stoves, ovens, grills, food storage room and exhaust hood, etc.;
• To damp mop floors;
• To clean other kitchen equipment such as blenders, refrigerators, dishwashers, etc.;
• To perform all duties with cleanliness in mind;
• To be aware of the Resident Rights & Responsibilities and endeavor to respect and promote it;
• To attend in-service training as required in order to better serve the dietary needs of the residents;
• To attend staff meetings as required to be aware of changes in Residence that have taken place;
• To participate in the Quality Improvement Program;
• To work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
• To uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity;
• To complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
