About this opportunity

Reporting into the Manager, Facilities Engineering, the Discipline Facilities Engineer (Electrical) provides electrical engineering support to plant operation and maintenance teams at Cenovus Thermal and Conventional Heavy Oil assets in Canada.

What you’ll do
  • Offer electrical engineering guidance to plant operations and maintenance teams for Cenovus oil sands and conventional heavy oil facilities.
  • Develop Electrical Engineering work deliverables, including Single Line Diagrams, Cable Schedules, Electrical Layouts, schematic wiring diagrams, electrical heat trace isometric layouts, equipment specification sheets, and other technical documents.
  • Partner with other Facilities Engineering teams (field and Calgary-based) to ensure alignment with customer needs and priorities.
  • Liaise with outside engineering resources to ensure the work meets quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Keep up to date with Cenovus technical specifications, industry best practices, and new technology.
  • Adhere to the Cenovus Management of Change (MOC) work process, ensuring systematic identification, analysis and review of facility changes to minimize risk.
  • Submit Engineering Investigations (EI) and management of change (MOC) requests on behalf of stakeholders.
  • Support Operations, Maintenance, and site engineering teams in framing and scoping electrical engineering requests.
  • Ensure engineering work is carried out within the requirements of the Cenovus Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).
Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • P. Eng. designation with APEGA or APEGS.
  • Minimum 4 years electrical engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of applicable industry codes (including the Canadian Electrical Code) and standards (NEMA, IEEE, API, CSA).
  • Proficiency in developing electrical engineering work, including Single Line Diagrams, Cable Schedules, Electrical Layouts, Wiring Schematics, Electrical Heat Trace Isometrics, equipment specification sheets, and other technical documents.
  • Proficiency in selection and rating of electrical equipment (motors, cabling, VFD, protection devices, MCC, switchgear, electric heat trace).
  • Working knowledge of power systems analysis and related software (e.g. ETAP) is an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of Hazardous Area Classification and its impact on electrical systems design.
  • Experience in oil and gas production, transportation, upgrading/refining or petrochemicals is an asset.
  • Experience with SAP is an asset.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre‑employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre‑employment screening for the final candidate.
