Job Description
HealthPRO Canada is seeking a Sustainability Director to advance Canada’s Social, Environmental, and Economic (SEE) agenda across all procurement portfolios. This role will embed sustainability principles into sourcing strategies, supplier relationships, and data frameworks — ensuring that HealthPRO Canada continues to deliver optimized value while advancing healthcare sustainability nationwide.
The successful candidate will collaborate cross-functionally to enhance HealthPRO’s Supplier Sustainability Scorecard (including Indigenous Procurement indicators), design and promote sustainable contract packages , and quantify environmental impact and carbon footprint at a granular, line-item level, while also leading indigenous supplier relationships and enabling members to support reconciliation objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supplier Sustainability & SEE Scorecard Development
- Enhance and operationalize HealthPRO’s Supplier Sustainability Scorecard, aligning with recognized standards (e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, ILO, GLW, UN SDGs).
- Collect, validate, and analyze supplier sustainability data, including metrics related to energy use, packaging, waste reduction, emissions intensity, labour practices, and public commitments to eliminate forced labour.
- Develop standardized reporting templates and performance dashboards for supplier benchmarking and member reporting.
- Partner with suppliers to co-create improvement plans, establish sustainability targets, and track measurable year-over-year progress.
- Expand Indigenous Procurement criteria (supplier self-identification, certification, participation metrics).
2. Sustainable Product Strategy & Circular Procurement
- Identify and prioritize high-impact categories for sustainable and reusable product alternatives across clinical and non-clinical portfolios.
- Collaborate with category teams to embed sustainability and circular economy principles into sourcing criteria, RFP frameworks, and award recommendations.
- Develop curated “Sustainable Product Packages” to simplify member adoption of lower-impact alternatives.
- Partner with Marketing and Member Success teams to produce educational materials, case studies, and success stories that demonstrate sustainability leadership.
3. Carbon Footprint & Environmental Impact Measurement
- Develop and maintain a methodology for calculating carbon footprint at a product, supplier, or SKU level.
- Partner with Data & Digital teams to integrate environmental impact metrics into HealthPRO’s analytics and reporting platforms.
- Translate complex data into actionable insights for sourcing decisions, member reporting, and public sustainability disclosures.
- Support supplier and member participation in carbon reduction initiatives, lifecycle assessments (LCAs), and low-emission product conversions.
4. Collaboration, Training & Advocacy
- Partner with internal sourcing leads, suppliers, and healthcare members to drive sustainability objectives across portfolios.
- Represent HealthPRO in national and international indigenous procurement forums, sustainability forums, roundtables, and industry initiatives.
- Deliver training and advisory sessions to internal teams and members on sustainable procurement best practices and policy trends.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience working within a publicly funded procurement setting (e.g., public sector, healthcare, education, Crown agencies, or government-regulated procurement frameworks) with demonstrated understanding of BPS and / or PSPC guidelines.
- 5 years of experience in sustainability, ESG reporting, or environmental impact analysis — ideally within healthcare, manufacturing, or procurement sectors.
- Strong understanding of carbon accounting, lifecycle assessment (LCA), circular economy, and responsible sourcing principles.
- Advanced data analysis and reporting skills, with experience in sustainability metrics, dashboards, or business intelligence tools.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills — able to influence suppliers, present to healthcare leadership, and collaborate across internal teams.
- Familiarity with GS1 / ECCnet data standards , Canadian healthcare procurement processes, and government sustainability frameworks (e.g., PSPC, BPS) is an asset.
