Job Description
Position Summary

The Director, Support Services and Planning (“Director”) provides visionary leadership to a broad portfolio that ensures Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) remains safe, efficient, future‑ready, and responsive to community needs. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and Corporate Services & CFO, the Director oversees Infrastructure Planning and Capital Development, Space Planning, Facilities, Security, Environmental Services, Food Services, and Patient Transportation.

The ideal candidate brings significant experience in strategic facilities planning, capital construction, asset and space management, and physical plant operations. You combine technical expertise with strong business acumen, strategic foresight, and exceptional consultative skills.

As a trusted advisor, you excel at building strong relationships across diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and play a key role in driving CMH’s mission of Creating Healthier Communities, Together.

The Director is accountable for the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective operation of all Support Services functions and for ensuring full compliance with legislative, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. With strong interpersonal and leadership skills, the Director fosters collaboration and alignment in support of CMH’s clinical priorities and strategic direction.

Major Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Planning
  • Provide strategic direction for Facilities, Infrastructure Planning, Capital Development, Security, Environmental Services, Food Services, and Patient Transportation.
  • Lead transformative capital and infrastructure projects, ensuring effective risk management, stakeholder collaboration, and seamless execution.
  • Guide operational and capital budgeting, balancing short‑term needs with long‑term organizational priorities.
Operational Excellence
  • Drive operational performance across all Support Services areas, ensuring safety, efficiency, and service excellence.
  • Implement best‑in‑class project and facilities management practices that support reliability, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion CMH’s Environmental Sustainability Plan, integrating sustainability principles into operations and capital planning.
Collaboration, Governance & Stakeholder Relations
  • Collaborate with senior leadership in shaping hospital strategy, culture, and governance.
  • Build, strengthen, and manage partnerships with staff, physicians, external vendors, consultants, municipal and provincial authorities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Prepare high‑quality presentations, reports, and recommendations for the Board of Directors and Board Committees.
People Leadership
  • Mentor, coach, and develop future leaders, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and empowerment.
  • Cultivate a safe, respectful, inclusive workplace where staff feel valued and supported.
Vendor & Contract Management
  • Oversee vendor relationships and contractual agreements to maximize value, innovation, and service quality.
  • Ensure procurement and vendor engagement practices align with hospital standards and strategic objectives.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
  • Professional designations such as P.Eng., CET, PMP, FMP, or CHFM are strong assets.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ progressive leadership experience in project management, preferably within healthcare, public sector, or other complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in capital planning, construction management, infrastructure operations, and space management.
  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to translate complex information for diverse audiences and influence decision‑making at all levels.
  • Proven ability to build trust‑based relationships with senior leaders, clinicians, consultants, contractors, Ministry officials, and external partners.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, safety standards, building codes, and compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated commitment to CMH’s mission, vision, and values, and to fostering a positive, inclusive, and high‑performing workplace culture.
  • Ability to work on‑site at CMH.
