The Director, Satellite Ground Infrastructure and RAN is responsible for the planning, design, and evolution of satellite ground systems infrastructure, as well as their integration with the Radio Access Network (RAN). The incumbent will cover the sites in Allan Park (Ontario) and North Las Vegas (Nevada), ensuring the performance, resilience, and scalability of satellite gateways.

Planning and Design of Satellite Ground Infrastructure
  • Design architecture of ground components (gateways, control stations, network interfaces) for the Allan Park and North Las Vegas sites.
  • Develop technological evolution plans to ensure the performance, resilience, and sustainability of the infrastructures.
  • Ensure coordination with the various stakeholders responsible for the two Gateways regarding space management and the deployment of all connectivity, security, and other related components.
  • Oversee the implementation of satellite beam plans and assess their performance.
Integration and Optimization of the Radio Access Network (RAN)
  • Oversee the integration of the RAN with satellite infrastructures, ensuring compatibility and performance optimization.
  • Ensure the evolution of RAN solutions and alignment with 3GPP standards and emerging technologies (4G/5G/NR, hybrid satellite‑terrestrial systems).
  • Conduct capacity, coverage, and performance analyses to support investment decisions.
  • Ensure access network optimization through field measurement campaigns and other assessments, including any potential sources of interference.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure seamless interoperability across network layers.
Strategic Management, Coordination, and Technological Watch
  • Work closely with engineering, operations, and cybersecurity teams to ensure system compliance and security.
  • Participate in vendor selection, equipment validation, and management of deployment projects.
  • Maintain ongoing technological watch on innovations in satellite telecommunications and access networks.
Team Management and Technical Leadership
  • Supervise members of the technical teams involved in infrastructure and network projects, providing guidance tailored to their areas of expertise.
  • Define operational and strategic priorities in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure task planning, skills development, and evaluation of individual and collective performance.
  • Act as a resource person for complex technical issues and support decision‑making.

COMPETENCY PROFILE AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education / Experience / Certification
  • University degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in satellite or RAN network design.
  • Experience with 3GPP standards, 4G/5G/NR access network technologies, and hybrid satellite‑terrestrial systems.
  • Skills in managing complex technical projects, including coordination of vendors and multidisciplinary teams.
Other Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of satellite gateway architectures, IP protocols, RF links, and network management systems.
  • Excellent skills in strategic planning, project management, and interdisciplinary communication.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance standards for critical infrastructures.
  • Proficiency in network management systems (NMS), IP protocols, and monitoring tools.
  • Fluent in French and English, both spoken and written.
