The Role

The Director of People & Culture is a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing the People & Culture strategy within a growing organization of nearly 250 employees, with ambitious goals for continued expansion that drives business growth, enhances profitability, and aligns with the company’s strategic objectives. This role focuses on fostering a strong organizational culture, driving employee engagement, and ensuring that the company’s values are deeply embedded in all aspects of the business. As a key advisor to the CEO and leadership team, the Director will ensure the development of a high-performing, engaged workforce while overseeing People & Culture operations, compliance, and talent acquisition, development, and retention across the company. This role reflects the company’s belief that caring for people is central to business success and champions this philosophy by cultivating an environment where individuals feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.

  • Strategic Leadership & Culture Development: Lead the People & Culture strategy to support business growth and foster a high-performance, values-driven culture; integrate values into HR policies and employee experiences; align people strategies with key business initiatives to enhance productivity and long-term financial performance; maintain a cohesive culture across teams and regions; serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and leadership team; establish and maintain a strong employer brand.
  • Talent Management & Leadership Development: Develop leadership and employee development programs; assess training needs; create onboarding and career development pathways; support new leaders transitioning into leadership roles; partner with leaders on retention strategies; oversee performance management and workforce planning; build internal recruiting capabilities; drive recruitment excellence and onboarding; implement metrics to monitor hiring outcomes; foster a proactive recruitment strategy.
  • HR Operations & Compliance: Ensure compliance with employment laws across Canada and relevant US jurisdictions; develop and refine People & Culture policies; educate leaders and employees on policies; drive HRIS utilization (Dayforce); oversee health and safety programs; conduct periodic audits of compliance and best practices.
  • Total Rewards & Compensation Strategy: Design and implement competitive compensation and benefits programs; develop incentive and recognition programs; align rewards with business goals and employee engagement; lead benefits provider negotiations.
  • Employee Engagement & Organizational Effectiveness: Implement tools to enhance engagement; gather and act on employee feedback; lead employee experience programs supporting mental health, wellness, and work-life balance; coach leaders on employee relations.
  • Change Management & Business Growth: Translate growth objectives into People & Culture programs; lead involvement in M&A, restructuring, and organizational change; drive continuous improvement and measurable outcomes.
Qualifications

Essential:

  • University degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • CHRL (Certified Human Resources Leader) designation required.
  • Minimum of 12+ years of progressive People & Culture leadership experience, with at least 5 years at a senior managerial level.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing People & Culture team.
  • Experience developing and executing strategies that support business growth and transformation.
  • Strong expertise in organizational culture, employee engagement, leadership development, and talent strategy.
  • Advanced knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and broad knowledge across Canada; working knowledge of U.S. employment practices where relevant.
  • Experience with HRIS (preferably Dayforce).
  • Demonstrated success in leading People & Culture teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience in manufacturing and/or distribution environments.
  • CHRE designation is an asset.
