Job description

Jump Recruitment, on behalf of our client, Steele Hotels, is seeking to fill a Director of Finance position to join their team in their head office location in St. John’s, NL. This is full-time, permanent opportunity, reporting to the Vice-President/CFO, and is an essential member of the senior management team.

Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hire, supervise, train, coach and manage Division Controllers.
  • Plan, organize, review and ensure the timely preparation of annual budgets.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely production of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Manage the year-end process with controllers and be the organization's main liaison with the external audit firm.
  • Ensure month and year-end files are prepared on time and review controllers' work, as well as Accounts Receivable and Payables.
  • Prepare high-level executive reports to present the financial situation to executives.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Review and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate reporting and accounting controls in all aspects of the organization.
  • Review and Post Journal Entries
  • Control costs and implement strict control systems over purchasing, AP, AR, credit, sales cycle, inventory processes, and procedures.
  • Monitor cash flow, investments, and other financial metrics to ensure optimal resource allocation.
  • Maintain and optimize the software systems used in the accounting function, including Sage and Firestar.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of proven experience in a similar role
  • Bachelor's degree in administration, accounting, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of SAGE Intacct preferred.
  • Professional designations such as CPA, CA, CMA, and CGA are assets.
  • Operational experience is an asset, hotel accounting experience an asset
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Solid leadership skills to train and mentor the accounting team and the Hotel Management team
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing needs.
  • An ability to multitask and manage time effectively in time-sensitive situations.
