Job description

UVic Properties, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Victoria. The company manages UVic’s portfolio of non-academic real estate on Vancouver Island to provide financial returns that support the university’s academic mission. The 135 commercial and 45 residential properties include important landmarks in Victoria’s social and business community such as the Vancouver Island Technology Park, the Marine Technology Centre, the Queenswood Oceans and Climate Campus, the Legacy Art Gallery and Swans Brewery, Pub + Hotel.

About the Role

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, UVic Properties, the Director of Finance (the Director) has oversight of all financial aspects of the UVic Properties group of companies and the internal finance department. In addition, the Director provides sound financial advice and strategic financial analysis to the President and CEO, to enable informed decision-making, and plays a critical role in driving transformation through accurate financial analysis. The role involves developing and executing financial policy for all managed real estate properties and developing annual capital and operating budgets in consultation with the Leadership Team to support operational business plans, goals, and targets. The Director implements appropriate financial controls, standards, policies, and measures to ensure budgets and targets are met while monitoring and ensuring risk and compliance.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with analytical and interpersonal abilities supplemented by a high degree of accountability and drive for results. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree (Business or Finance preferred) and professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA) with over ten (10) years of progressive and related management experience, preferably from a real estate asset management group or developer or similar post-secondary properties trust. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The salary for this position is $150,000 - $170,000, supplemented by a comprehensive total compensation and benefits package, including RRSP contributions.
