Job Responsibilities
  • Financial Budgeting and Reporting
    • Lead the preparation, consolidation, and submission of accurate and timely financial reports, including ad hoc analyses requested by senior management.
    • Oversee the development and presentation of annual operating and capital budgets to the CFO, COO, and President / CEO, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
    • Ensure the timely production of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
    • Prepare and submit all mandatory financial reporting to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Gaming, including semi-annual and annual Other Government Organizations (OGO) reports, Tangible Capital Assets (TCA) reports, quarterly governance updates, and the Annual Certificate of Assurance.
    • Manage the reconciliation and reporting of government funding in accordance with program guidelines and audit requirements.
    • Collaborate with the Ministry Coordinator, Ontario Auditor General, and external auditors on implementing new accounting standards and ensuring ongoing compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks.
    • Provide accurate and timely financial data for external surveys (e.g., Statistics Canada, Canadian Chamber of Commerce) and internal performance tracking.
    • Support the development of the MTCC Annual Report through financial data and insights.
    • Assist the CFO with the coordination of the annual Business Plan process to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
    • Lead procurement for finance-related services (e.g., external auditors, pension consultants, financial advisors).
    • Oversee internal financial control systems to ensure operational accuracy, efficiency, and integrity.
    • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance financial performance and efficiency.
    • Support corporate insurance renewal activities and risk management initiatives.
    • Monitor key financial trends and risks to inform strategic decision-making.
    • Prepare detailed financial presentations and reports for quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
  • Financial Controls
    • Ensure compliance with all organizational financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • Establish, monitor, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard MTCC assets and ensure accurate processing of financial transactions.
    • Identify, assess, and escalate financial risks, control deficiencies, or compliance issues to the CFO and the Finance & Audit Committee.
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals, including managers, analysts, and accounting staff.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the Finance department.
    • Provide coaching and performance management to support professional growth and departmental excellence.
Job Qualifications
  • Professional accounting designation required: CPA
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive financial management experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience with public sector financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated participation / leadership with industry partners / groups
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a complex organizational environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills to develop team members.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and customer service abilities.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Technical / Computer Skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with financial reporting software and digital collaboration platforms (e.g., Teams, SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of database management and data integrity best practices
