Job description

Job Title : Director of Finance (Part-Time, Contract)

Hours : 15-20 hours / month

Compensation : $100-150 per hour (TBD / contract-based)

Reports to : President / Founder

We’ve embraced the LeanScaper Method , optimizing our workflows for excellence, client satisfaction, and team empowerment. As we grow, we’re seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Finance to guide financial planning and performance at a fractional level.

Role Overview

The Director of Finance will provide senior-level financial oversight, ensure compliance, guide budgeting, and help optimize job costing and cash flow using tools like LMN (Landscape Management Network) and QuickBooks . The ideal candidate will have experience in service-based businesses—preferably in the trades or landscaping sector—and can operate with efficiency and autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Oversight

  • Advise the President on financial planning, forecasting, and key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with LeanScaper principles.
  • Lead the creation of annual budgets, revenue targets, and job cost tracking models.
  • Monitor financial health and profitability of maintenance and installation bundles.
  • Review and validate monthly financials in QuickBooks and LMN (ensuring sync and accuracy).
  • Oversee month-end and quarter-end close : ensure entries, reconciliations, and classifications are accurate.
  • Generate and present concise financial summaries and cash flow reports to the executive team.

Systems, Processes & Compliance

  • Refine accounting workflows using LeanScaper Methods , eliminating inefficiencies and waste.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and CRA regulations (GST / PST, payroll remittances, EHT, WCB).
  • Work with third-party accountants for year-end tax prep and CRA filings.
  • Project & Job Cost Analysis

  • Audit job costing reports from LMN : identify trends, variances, and areas for margin improvement.
  • Collaborate with operations to link field performance and financial outcomes.
  • Advisory & Decision Support

  • Provide advice to President and Leadership team on overall company operations and financial areas including opportunities for improving efficiency and profit
  • Serve as a thought partner in pricing strategies for seasonal bundles, service upgrades, and long-term contracts as well as pricing strategies for Landscape Installation and Snow and Ice Management Services.
  • Assist in scenario planning for growth and business development initiatives, equipment investments, and hiring forecasts.
  • Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in financial leadership roles—preferably with small to mid-sized service businesses.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks Online , LMN , and Google Workspace.
  • Familiarity with Lean practices or LeanScaper frameworks (an asset).
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work autonomously.
  • Located in or familiar with the BC Lower Mainland business and tax environment.
