Qualifications

• 7+ years of software development experience with 3+ years leading a team
• Experience leading engineering teams responsible for customer-facing web and mobile applications
• Deep technical background in Java and Angular (or React/Vue)
• Experience building cross-platform mobile applications with Flutter (Android and iOS)
• Experience delivering modern web apps using frontend frameworks (Angular/React/Vue) with strong frontend architecture skills
• Experience with relational databases (Oracle, Postgres) including schema design and tuning
• Experience with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra) and choosing when to use them
• Production AWS experience across compute, networking, and data services
• Demonstrated use of AI tools in the software development lifecycle

Position Overview

We’re hiring an Engineering Director to lead a team of 10–20 engineers building customer-facing web and mobile applications used by thousands of users globally. You'll lead teams responsible for delivering intuitive, high-performing digital experiences across Android, iOS, and modern web platforms while continuing to evolve the underlying SaaS architecture. This is a newly created role reporting to the SVP of Engineering. It combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight—you’ll set direction, elevate engineering standards, and drive delivery. This is a hybrid role based in our Markham, Ontario office.

Key responsibilities

• Leadership & Team Building: Lead and grow a team of 10 to 20 engineers across North America and India, fostering a high performance collaborative culture across time zones.
• Technical Leadership: Own architecture and system design across customer-facing web and mobile applications, APIs, and cloud infrastructure. Lead decisions that drive performance, usability, accessibility, and scalability across Android, iOS, and web experiences. Stay close enough to the code to make sharp technical calls and mentor engineers on craft.
• Cross-Functional Impact: Partner with product, design, and business leaders to translate strategy into technical roadmap, with a shared focus on usability and customer experience. Drive alignment across teams and influence technical strategy.
• Delivery & Execution: Own delivery against the product and platform roadmap. Improve engineering velocity through process, tooling and best practice.
• Engineering Excellence: Raise the bar on code quality, testing, and operational excellence. Build strong observability and incident response practice. Leverage modern AI tools to improve productivity and quality.
• Partner with Product and Design leaders to define the long-term vision and roadmap for customer-facing web and mobile applications.
• Champion best practices in mobile and web application development, including performance optimization, accessibility, responsive design, instrumentation, and user experience.

What You’ll Bring

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 7 years of software development experience, with 3+ years leading a team. This includes hiring, performance management, and developing senior engineers
• Proven experience leading engineering teams responsible for customer-facing web and mobile applications, including frontend architecture, mobile development, user experience, performance, and release management
• Deep technical background in Java and Angular (or a comparable modern frontend framework such as React or Vue), with a strong sense for building responsive, usable web and mobile front ends
• Experience building cross-platform mobile applications with Flutter, delivered across Android and iOS
• Experience delivering modern web applications using Angular, React, Vue, or similar frameworks, with a strong understanding of frontend architecture, performance, accessibility, and responsive design
• Experience with Oracle, Postgres, or similar relational databases, including schema design, performance tuning, and the hard parts
• Working experience with NoSQL databases (e.g. DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra) and a clear sense of when to reach for them
• Production AWS experience across computer, networking, and data services
• Ability to comprehend and contribute to systems design, including scalability, reliability, trade-offs, and failure modes
• Demonstrable use of AI tools in the software development lifecycle, such as coding assistants, agentic workflows, code review, and test generation. You should be able to show concretely how you and your teams ship faster and better with AI

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multi-region AWS deployments and delivering customer-facing SaaS products across web and mobile.

Education

• BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

• Full-time, permanent position. This is a hybrid role based in our Markham, Ontario office, with a typical expectation of two to three days per week on-site.

Compensation

Good faith annual salary range for this position is $190,000 to $200,000 CAD and is commensurate with experience and location.

Other Duties

Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time according to business needs.

The performance of additional responsibilities if you are designated as a Data Protection Champion (DPC), Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) or Information Assurance Accounting Officer (IAAO).
