Job description

CarbonCure Technologies is a fast-growing carbon utilization technology company on a mission to reduce embodied carbon in new concrete construction. With hundreds of carbon mineralization systems operating worldwide, CarbonCure’s technologies inject and permanently embed captured CO₂ in concrete while also enabling reductions of carbon-intensive cement from each truckload of concrete. This innovative solution has saved hundreds of thousands of metric tons of CO₂ to date, and that impact grows with every truckload of concrete our producer partners supply in their markets. CarbonCure’s cutting-edge research and innovation have also garnered global recognition and prestigious awards, most notably the Carbon XPRIZE Grand Prize and induction into the Cleantech 100 Hall of Fame. CarbonCure’s investors include Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Blue Earth Capital, BDC, Amazon, Taronga Ventures, 2150, Microsoft, Samsung Ventures, BH3 Growth Equity, Carbon Direct, GreenSoil Investments and Mitsubishi Corporation. Purpose Driven Position

Reporting to the CTO, the Director of Engineering will lead CarbonCure’s central Hardware function, with responsibility for hardware engineering and controls, manufacturing, hardware QA/QC, supply chain, and lifecycle management of CarbonCure’s technology platforms.
The role is responsible for continuously improving and supporting the existing Ready Mix hardware platform and for the industrialization and integration of newly developed Reclaimed Water and future hardware technologies as they transition from Science/R&D and Product Development into commercial deployment.

As CarbonCure transitions installation and maintenance capabilities to established regional teams, the central Hardware function will maintain the standards, processes, technical knowledge and escalation capability required to support consistent global execution. The central team will also provide direct installation and technical support to new and developing regions until sufficient scale exists to establish dedicated regional hardware resources.
The successful candidate will bring strong engineering and operational leadership, systems-level thinking and a data-driven approach to delivering safe, reliable, scalable and cost-effective hardware globally.

Prerequisites
  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Mechatronics, Controls or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience developing, deploying and supporting industrial hardware, process, controls or automation systems, including leadership experience.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary industrial systems integration.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and developing technical staff, including geographically dispersed teams.
  • Strong understanding of industrial hardware and systems integration, including mechanical, electrical, controls, instrumentation and software interfaces.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management, manufacturing, quality, reliability, engineering change control and continuous improvement.
  • Strong project and resource management skills, with demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities and deploy resources effectively across operational and development needs.
  • Comfortable using engineering, production and fleet data to identify trends, prioritize work, and measure performance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively across technical, commercial and regional teams.
  • Experience balancing product performance, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost in engineering decisions.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic environment with changing technical, customer and regional priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally and a valid passport.
  • Knowledge of concrete batching operations or experience working with concrete producers or similar industrial process environments is a strong asset.
Position Description
  • Lead and develop CarbonCure’s central Hardware function, including hardware engineering and controls, manufacturing, hardware QA/QC, supply chain and product lifecycle management, with accountability for departmental resources, budgets, safety, quality and technical performance.
  • Own and continuously improve the existing Ready Mix hardware platform and lead the industrialization, hardware integration and production readiness of newly developed Reclaimed Water and future technologies as they transition from Science/R&D and Product Development into commercial deployment.
  • Ensure hardware systems are safe, reliable, manufacturable, cost-effective and scalable through effective engineering, validation, certification, configuration management, quality and change-control processes.
  • Establish and maintain central hardware standards, processes, documentation and technical knowledge to support consistent production, deployment, maintenance and lifecycle management across global regions.
  • Enable the transition of installation and maintenance to regional teams through appropriate standards, training, documentation, tools and technical escalation support. Provide central installation and technical support to new or developing regions until sufficient scale exists to establish dedicated regional hardware capability.
  • Balance and prioritize central Hardware resources across core engineering, manufacturing and lifecycle responsibilities and the deployment/support needs of developing regions, proactively identifying capacity requirements as the business grows.
  • Use fleet, production, quality and service data to identify systemic issues, improve reliability and performance, reduce lifecycle cost, and incorporate field learnings into product and process improvements.
  • Partner closely with Science/R&D, Product Development, Digital and regional teams to support technology transfer, system integration, commercialization and ongoing performance of CarbonCure technologies.
Work Environment
  • This is a permanent, full-time position that will be based in CarbonCure’s headquarters in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This position will involve occasional travel to current and prospective customer sites or industry events as required.
  • This position will support distributors and customers located across the world. As such, it is expected that support across these different time zones will be accommodated through flexible working arrangements.
  • A minimum of eight (8) hours Monday to Friday is required, with the possibility of additional time based on project and customer demand.
