A leading EPCM firm in oil and gas in Toronto is seeking an Engineering Director to oversee the strategic direction and management of the engineering team. This role includes ensuring project deliverables are met on time and within budget, developing strong client relationships, and directing departmental managers. Candidates must possess over 20 years of EPCM experience, a relevant Engineering Degree, and be a Canadian Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Qualifications

Equinox Engineering Ltd. is a Calgary-based EPCM firm. We are a market leader in oil and gas processing specializing in facilities design, implementation and operational assistance for natural gas, conventional oil, heavy oil, carbon capture and pipeline projects. Our clients include several of the largest oil and gas producers in Canada and worldwide.

Summary

The Engineering Director oversees the strategic direction, development, and management of the engineering team within the organization. They work with all stakeholders to ensure that project deliverables are on schedule and on budget. They ensure that department staff respect the policies and procedures of the organization. They constantly strive to develop and use accurate, relevant information for decision making and they regularly consult with the Executive Vice President, Operations. All Engineering departments report to the Engineering Director.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the Engineering disciplines.
  • Direct Department Managers to develop, maintain and monitor corporate procedures and standards.
  • Conflict resolution and mediation in dealing with issues.
  • Manpower loading and work forecasting.
  • Oversee compensation and performance reviews with Department Managers.
  • Ensure personnel are provided with adequate onboarding, training and guidance.
  • Monitor effectiveness of departments and standards.
  • Provide input into developing corporate, project and department procedures.
  • Participate in Project Management and Departmental Meetings.
  • Strategic planning and development, short and long-term planning.
  • Work with the Chief Engineer to promote Continuous Improvement, Initiatives and Quality.
  • Review and recommend employee salaries.
  • Office space allocation and office system requirements.
  • Business development and marketing.
  • Work with Department Managers to ensure succession plans are in place.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain global operations strategy, resources and targets.
Key Skills
  • Proven experience in establishing, developing, and maintaining strong client relationships, including strong project planning and execution of oil and gas facilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Broad exposure to oil and gas facility design and construction.
  • Experience in managing multidiscipline teams.
  • Meet regularly with Executive Vice President, Operations to review corporate needs.
  • Meet regularly with Department Managers and Project Managers to plan the best allocation and utilization of staff.
  • Effectively and mutually resolve interdisciplinary issues, or concerns that arise within a team environment.
  • Developed local knowledge of business economics and trends in the industry.
Education and Qualifications
  • 20+ years of Oil and Gas EPCM experience.
  • Multinational execution experience utilizing Workshare.
  • Relevant Engineering Degree (preference for Chemical or Mechanical Engineering).
  • Canadian Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.
