Scope of Position:

The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading and controlling all engineering related activities with a clear focus in providing a balanced service to meet the needs of the physical property, our customers, and colleagues. The incumbent is expected to actively participate in the general day to day operation of the department leading, mentoring, training, and educating the engineering team. The Director of Engineering is responsible for the financial management of the property operation and maintenance expenses and for utilities consumption. During the opening phase the Director of Engineering will be responsible drive the Technical Services divisional critical path including recruitment of the Engineering team, process structuring and MO standards compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain in a proper and safe condition all buildings, plant, plant rooms, equipment, and front and back of house areas.
  • Establish and implement the “Safe and Sound” procedures such as the Fire, Life, Health, Safety and Security, Emergency and Standard Operating Procedures in compliance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group standards.
  • Ensure all work carried out for the hotel is in compliance with the relevant statutory requirements, regulations and codes.
  • Perform “Emergency Response Team” duties as required.
  • Directly oversee and control the activities of the Engineering Management Team under own supervision.
  • Oversee the selection of engineering outsourced companies and services.
  • Participate in the formulation of strategic business plans for the hotel.
  • Formulate and implement strategic development for the hotel’s involvement in the local community.
  • Develop and implement the preventative maintenance programmes in accordance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group guidelines.
  • Establishes and manages the annual Capex plan and budget for all aspects of engineering.
  • Oversees the strategic direction of general projects related to the enhancement of the hotel. Project management covering the areas of planning, administration, implementation, and evaluation of financial results of projects.
  • Supports the Financial Controller in the hotel’s overall financial performance; the annual hotel budget process; the energy and cost consumption; and the engineering contractor’s selection and documentation.
  • Supports the Director of Human Resources in their strategy for the recruitment and selection of employees; career development programmes for employees; labour cost management; community programmes; and the evaluation and recognition of employees.
  • Supports the IT&T Director in telecommunications upgrades and enhancements; annual maintenance of the contingency systems that support IT&T equipment and systems; and the annual testing and conformance of emergency power systems based on Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group guidelines.
  • Supports the Operations team on the training and demonstration of various systems such as the key system for guest rooms, audio visual equipment, lighting and temperature and control systems, etc.
  • Participates in the Repairs and Maintenance, Project and Risk Management Committee meetings as required.
  • Conducts regular inspections of all front and back of house areas to ensure the quality and standards are maintained at the highest level.
  • Ensures all drawings, manuals and documentation is updated as and when changes are made.
  • Ensures all certifications, test reports, inspections and maintenance reports are properly stored and updated.
  • Be fully conversant with all technical details of all plant and services relating to the hotel.
  • Assists engineering personnel with technical advice and ensure standards are maintained.
  • Prepares budgets, forecasts, and costings.
  • Actively assists with energy conservation and control.
  • Maintains contact with local authorities and Government Departments such as the Fire Service Department, Electrical and Mechanical Service Department, Water Supply Department, Building Ordinance Office, Drainage Department, Labour Department, Environmental Protection Department, to ensure that all requirements are being complied with and that assistance or advice will be readily available whenever required.
  • Promotes and co-ordinates all requirements as per MOHG’s Fire, Life, Health, Safety and Security guidelines.
  • Acts as the Company’s legal representative for Health & Safety matters arising from engineering, maintenance, facilities, and infrastructure operations.
Qualifications / Experience:
  • Engineering studies such as Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Services.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years as Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering within luxury and premium hotels.
  • Excellent knowledge of major building systems, power plant, air conditioning system, kitchens etc.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in energy management.
  • Pre-opening experience is an advantage.
  • Experienced user of office automation applications, including Word, Excel amongst others
  • Fluency in English & Greek.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, result oriented, excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated, team player with good leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently, respectfully, and fairly in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to handle pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Approachable, open minded, fair and Team oriented.
  • Detail-minded, and able to work independently in a fast-moving environment.
  • Highly self-motivated, professional, and capable of managing their workload and prioritizing tasks.
