Jackman Law is housed in the elegant, state-of-the-art Jackman Law Building, alongside two historic buildings, Flavelle House and Falconer Hall, on the St. George Campus in downtown Toronto.

Your Opportunity:

Under the direction of the Head of Strategy and Transformation & Senior Advisor to the Dean ("Head of Strategy"), and in consultation with the Dean and Faculty Advisors, the Director, Leadership and Strategic Initiatives provides strategic and operational leadership for the Lawyers and Leaders for a Changing World ("LLCW") program at the Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law.

As a key member of the Faculty's senior leadership team, the Director is responsible for the overall strategy, development, management, and performance of LLCW, a large-scale, multifaceted Faculty-wide leadership development program serving hundreds of students and internal and external professionals each year. The Director leads the planning, design, delivery, coordination, and continuous development of LLCW's diverse portfolio of co-curricular, experiential, and executive-level programs and ensures that appropriate practices, policies, and procedures are in place to support their effective delivery.

The Director works closely with students, faculty, staff, and Faculty leadership, as well as external speakers, instructors, coaches, legal professionals, and other partners, to develop and deliver programming that is ambitious, responsive, and aligned with the Faculty's strategic objectives. The Director serves as the primary point of leadership and accountability for LLCW and is responsible for the program's overall administration, operations, stakeholder relationships, and performance.

In consultation with the Head of Strategy, the Director develops and implements LLCW's strategic and operational plans, establishes priorities, evaluates program effectiveness and impact, and identifies opportunities for growth and continuous improvement. The Director is also responsible for developing, managing, and evaluating the program's budget and ensuring that its operations, policies, and procedures are consistent with Faculty and University of Toronto requirements.

The Director has full managerial authority for the LLCW unit, including responsibility for staffing and hiring, allocation of financial and human resources, and oversight of the team's work and performance. Through this role, the Director ensures that resources are effectively deployed to advance LLCW's objectives and the broader strategic priorities of the Faculty.

Essential Qualifications:

Education:

Law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) is required. Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience an asset. License to practice law in Ontario or in Canada and willingness to have credentials recognized by the Law Society of Ontario an asset.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in a university, public interest, education or legal setting. Demonstrated high-level curriculum design, program development and delivery, and relationship management is required. Experience working with post-secondary students; demonstrated experience managing program budgets and fundraising; volunteer coordination experience; familiarity with and knowledge of current legal issues relating to legal education and the legal profession, and changes in the legal industry. Experience in business development, evaluating business opportunities and preparing proposals and negotiating contracts is an asset. Successful record of developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs while integrating best practices of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
