Position Title: Director, Investment Data
Reports To: AVP, Investment Finance, Data Analytics and Operations
Department: Investment Data
Term: Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

What you will be doing
  • Understand the role of Data Owner / Steward and take accountability on behalf of the Chief Investment Officer and their direct reports.
  • Partner and align with Equitable’s Data Governance team to implement standards and best practices within Asset Management
  • Align with Equitable's IT security and Data architecture principles and guardrails to implement platform and data solutions.
  • Develop and maintain robust reporting systems and business intelligence tools to provide holistic portfolio insights and support investment performance analysis.
  • Liaise with public and private investment teams to understand needs and prioritize requests
  • Oversee proper change management and non-financial reporting.
  • Manage and mentor a team of investment analytics and data professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and data-driven decision-making.
  • Define and implement data strategy, policies, and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance.
  • Accountable for how Asset Management technology solutions support Business needs.
  • Govern project delivery aligning with Equitable’s Project Management Methodology and Software Development life cycle processes.
  • Oversee solution implementation and the configuration of software. Manage setup and testing of system for new instruments.
  • Maximize the value of the product for users. Oversee backlog management and align everybody around the product vision and business goals and objectives.
  • Design and test new workflows, dashboards and reports
  • Liaise with Vendors and IT on enhancement requests and product roadmap prioritization.
  • Oversee product release planning and testing.
What you will bring
  • 10+ years experience in Asset Management
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience within Asset Management and or Finance.
  • 5+ years experience working in Industry leading Asset Management platforms (BlackRock, Clearwater, Temenos, Finbourne, etc).
  • Understanding of Asset Management Business capabilities (Investment Book of Record, Accounting Book of Record, Order Management, Performance, Benchmarking, NAV Striking, Reporting).
  • Understanding of data governance and management concepts such as data modeling, lineage, data integrity, data life cycle management, etc.
  • Experience working on multi-year and multi-million-dollar strategic projects, involving process re‑engineering and technology implementations.
  • Previous experience working in Waterfall, Agile or Incremental project delivery methodologies.
  • Post‑secondary degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts
  • Proficient in collaboration tools like MS Project, Teams, Sharepoint, DevOps, Power BI, Purview.
  • Proficient in Microsoft tools, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strategic thinker, with an ability to drive innovation and lead teams to “Do Things Differently”.
  • Ability to centralize business needs and outcomes to envision common solutions to simplify how we work.
  • Roll up your sleeves attitude, willing to contribute through leadership and hands on support.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, build strong relationships with stakeholders, and communicate complex information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrable track record of working cross‑functionally with stakeholders to secure buy‑in, creating accepted solutions, and working flexibly to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Excellent self‑management and time management skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely and present complex / technical concepts simply.
  • Superior documentation skills
  • Experience bridging the gap between business and technical teams from a data perspective
  • Proven experience in data management, understanding of data governance and compliance, and the ability to manage data quality
