Overview

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) operates 136 schools serving more than 60,000 students and employing over 11,000 teachers and support staff. HRCE works in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) to provide programming and services from pre-primary to grade 12 and shares a geographic boundary with the Halifax Regional Municipality.

HRCE is searching for a Director, Human Resource Services

The Director, Human Resource Services shall provide leadership and direction to the Human Resources team to support the goals and objectives of the organization; provide consultative advice and strategic HR solutions to the Regional Executive Director and senior management team. The Director will lead the operations and strategic initiatives of human resources such as recruitment and selection, labour relations, contract negotiations, compensation and benefits, occupational health and safety, performance management, policy development, and training and development. The Director will work collaboratively as a member of the senior management team to support student achievement and well-being and organizational effectiveness. This position reports directly to the Regional Executive Director.

In addition to the following qualifications, the ideal candidate will have outstanding communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally, to achieve HRCEs goals.

  • Masters Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration (MBA) or Industrial / Labour Relations, Law or equivalent;
  • Minimum five (5) years senior management experience, preferably in the public sector;
  • Minimum seven (7) years experience working in human resources with proven expertise in labour relations;
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CPHR) designation is an asset
