About the Role

MEMS is looking for a strategic and people-focused Director of HSEC to lead our Health, Safety, Environment & Community programs across Canada. This is a senior leadership position focused on building a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance, managing risk, and supporting sustainable growth.

You’ll oversee a national HSEC team, guide contractor safety programs, and collaborate across departments to make sure our operations stay safe, compliant, and forward-thinking.

Please note this position is available to be based out of our Guelph, Saskatoon, Sherwood Park, or Calgary offices.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a national HSEC team
  • Align HSEC initiatives with MEMS’ business goals and future growth
  • Champion a people-first approach to safety and risk management
  • Set and manage HSEC budgets, programs, and annual targets
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Oversee HSE systems, standards, and metrics across all jurisdictions
  • Lead investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions
  • Drive proactive safety initiatives and training programs
  • Promote a behavior-based safety culture at all levels
Regulatory Compliance & Risk
  • Stay current on HSE legislation across Canada
  • Manage audits, inspections, certifications (COR, etc.)
  • Own regulatory relationships and due diligence (e.g., for M&A)
  • Maintain contractor and corporate safety portals (ISN, ComplyWorks, Avetta)
Contractor Management
  • Build and enforce a national contractor safety program
  • Lead contractor pre-qualification, onboarding, and site audits
  • Ensure jurisdiction-specific compliance is met on all projects
About You
  • CRSP (or equivalent experience in HSE leadership)
  • 10+ years in senior safety/environmental roles, with management experience
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian HSE laws, standards, and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven track record managing contractor safety programs
  • Strategic thinker with strong communication and leadership skills
  • Experience managing change, culture, and cross-functional teams
