Director, Global Procurement Commercial IT Digital

Mississauga, Canada

Hybrid Work- on average 3 days/week from office

In our exciting, new role as a Director, Global Procurement Commercial IT Digital you will deliver digital and technology expertise across the Commercial regions, focusing across the AstraZeneca (AZ) value chain from Discovery through to Commercialization.

You will work closely with AZ Digital Health team, Business Units, AI Governance teams, and cross‑functional teams to support scouting for new digital capabilities. You will partner with the AI governance team and Enterprise business units to understand AI roadmaps and opportunities. You’ll manage key stakeholder relationships across the business to understand and solve business problems through digital technology.

In addition to engaging with procurement and suppliers to support our new digital business requirements, this position will play a key role on the Digital and IT leadership team and serve as an SME in all things digital and Artificial Intelligence—bringing expertise and knowledge to the Procurement Network.

What you’ll do
Strategy
  • Develop a strategic approach for the acquisition of digital health technology programs and Business Units objectives across the enterprise to align internal strategies with external supplier capabilities.
  • Develop key third‑party relationships with both large technology companies and small start‑ups.
  • Embed excellence in category management across the category, region or market including sourcing, cost management, contract management, SC&I, supplier relationship and development management, and commodity price risk management (CPRM).
  • Develop, deliver and forecast annual financial and non‑financial targets regionally or globally, including cost savings.
  • Be accountable for security of supply, brand protection and risk and governance.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise in digital healthcare relative to life sciences across global procurement with expertise in process and contracting for software, digital and AI. Provide coaching and guidance across the procurement teams and other teams as required.
  • Lead the full results of all portfolio contract negotiations, achieving the given critical metrics, quality and TCO targets, and proactively identify opportunities to contribute to and improve TCO, inclusive of creating and delivering excellence of contracting while aligning to governance models within a streamlined process.
  • Develop long‑term strategic plans for the entire spend area within the portfolio (including overarching accountability for sub‑category and national plans within any given category) including trends and impact analysis.
Business & Supplier Engagement
  • Develop, communicate, coach an evolving procurement portfolio strategy with key execution tactics; establish, communicate and implement long‑term goals for the portfolio to promote effectiveness and efficiency that aligns with internal and external trends.
  • Ensure that Category Strategies are highly aligned to current and future business need and that the supply base can support these strategies. Strategies must consider required processes, governance, buying channels, reporting and formats including Procurement/Enterprise tools.
  • Deliver benefits within sourcing, cost management, supplier relationship management, supplier development and innovation.
  • Lead governance within the portfolio, ensuring commercial decisions are aligned with the overall business strategy and up/downstream partners.
  • Conduct annual peer reviews of category, region or market strategies with the Procurement Leadership Team.
  • Ensure that the underpinning process improvement and procurement activities deliver the expected business value in accordance with the strategic plans.
Essential for the role
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 8+ years experience in strategy, operations, and/or procurement within a complex environment
  • Significant procurement experience in Digital Health, Software, Technology and Artificial Intelligence
  • Significant experience developing technical supplier relationships
  • Proven ability to lead change and build new processes from scratch
  • Strategic management experience
  • Expertise in people and program leadership
  • Significant cross‑industry and cross‑category experience
Desirable for the role
  • Understanding of multiple aspects of the procurement process and systems
  • Experience developing collaboration agreements
  • Strong external network in the Digital Health category, Software, Technology and Artificial Intelligence
  • Strong knowledge base of healthcare digital technology and technical requirements as it relates to internal processes and best practices in procurement
