Job summary

Brookfield Energy is seeking a senior finance professional to lead IFRS reporting, budgeting, and external audits. You will guide debt/equity issuances, liaise with stakeholders, and drive process improvements across the finance team.

The role requires CA/CPA with 6–10 years of experience and 2–3 years in people leadership. Experience with OneStream and XBRL is beneficial; renewable energy background is a plus.

Qualifications

  • CA or CPA with 6–10 years of progressively senior experience in accounting or finance.
  • 2–3 years of people leadership experience.
  • Experience with consolidation software (OneStream) and familiarity with XBRL.
  • Background in renewable energy or asset management is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate complex financial information into clear insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration across levels and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and reporting abilities; interpersonal effectiveness across diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Review quarterly and annual financial statements and reports in accordance with IFRS.
  • Prepares and assesses support used for the management discussion and analysis sections of the quarterly and annual reports and investor supplemental.
  • Lead the finance workstream relating to debt and equity security issuances initiated by the capital markets team by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process and ad hoc financial planning and analysis requests.
  • Provide assistance with ad hoc investor relations requests and annual investor day.
  • Maintain a skeptical mindset and willingness to continuously learn accounting standards and industry trends.
  • Analyze results with skepticism and critical thinking to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Direct research and application of new accounting standards/guidelines and assess impacts on financial reporting.
  • Manage the external audit process including the corporate finance team during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
  • Modify existing or design new processes to maximize operational efficiency and adopt new technology.
  • Own internal controls for the financial reporting process to meet SOX requirements.
  • Fulfill ad hoc projects for senior management and rating agencies.
  • Contribute to the development of the finance team through coaching and learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review quarterly and annual financial statements and reports in accordance with IFRS;

  • Manage the external audit process including the corporate finance team during quarterly reviews and annual external audits to meet various deadlines;
  • Modifies existing and/or designs new processes that maximize operational efficiency including the implementation of new technology;
  • Owns internal controls for the financial reporting process to meet SOX requirements;
  • Fulfill ad hoc projects to assist with information requests, including for senior management and rating agencies;

Key Requirements / Qualifications
  • Professional designation: CA or CPA with 6–10 years of progressively senior experience in accounting or finance, including 2–3 years of people leadership.
  • Technical expertise: Experience with consolidation software (e.g., OneStream) and familiarity with XBRL; background in renewable energy or asset management is considered an asset.
  • Business & analytical acumen: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to translate complex financial information into clear insights.
  • Communication & negotiation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex issues clearly and use tact, diplomacy, and strong negotiation skills to influence and build alignment.
  • Leadership & collaboration: Demonstrated leadership capability, initiative, and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across all levels and with external stakeholders. Committed to team collaboration and to developing finance team members through effective coaching.
