Job summary

WSP in Canada seeks a Director, Ecology & Environmental Impact Assessment (Prairies & North) to lead a diverse environmental consulting practice. You will drive strategy, growth, and operational excellence across projects spanning mining, energy, infrastructure, and government sectors.

You’ll mentor leaders, manage client relationships, and engage Indigenous communities while shaping the future of environmental consulting in the region.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1+ year in leadership roles within environmental consulting or related field.
• Extensive experience with environmental impact assessment, regulatory permitting, and multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, approval processes, and stakeholder engagement across Canada.
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage client relationships, and deliver business results.

As Director, Ecology & Environmental Impact Assessment (Eco & EIA), Prairies & North, you'll have the opportunity to lead one of Canada's most diverse environmental consulting practices, influencing some of the region's most significant mining, energy, infrastructure, industrial, and government projects.

This is a highly visible leadership role with responsibility for strategy, growth, operational performance, client relationships, and team development across a multidisciplinary practice that includes environmental impact assessment, regulatory permitting, aquatic sciences, wildlife, vegetation and wetlands, heritage, socio-economic assessments, and environmental monitoring services. You'll work alongside an exceptional team of technical experts, business leaders, and project professionals while helping define the future of WSP's environmental consulting business across the Prairies and North.

Your Impact

• Shape the strategic direction and continued growth of a market-leading Ecology & Environmental Impact Assessment business across the Prairies & North region.
• Lead, inspire, and develop a multidisciplinary team of environmental professionals, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and key stakeholders, helping navigate complex environmental challenges and regulatory processes.
• Drive business growth by strengthening existing client relationships, expanding market presence, and identifying new opportunities across mining, energy, transportation, infrastructure, industrial, and government sectors.
• Champion major pursuits and strategic opportunities, leveraging your industry network and market expertise to position WSP for long-term success.
• Provide executive oversight and strategic guidance on high-profile environmental impact assessments, permitting programs, and multidisciplinary environmental projects.
• Lead business performance, including profitability, revenue growth, resource planning, forecasting, backlog management, and operational excellence.
• Partner with leaders across Environmental Management, Water Management, Ground Engineering, Mining, and other practices to deliver integrated solutions that create lasting value for clients.
• Build and mentor the next generation of leaders by supporting succession planning, employee development, and talent growth across the region.
• Act as a visible ambassador for WSP, strengthening our brand and reputation through industry engagement, strategic partnerships, and thought leadership.

• You're a proven business leader with a track record of growing teams, developing client relationships, and delivering strong business results within consulting, environmental services, or a related industry.
• You bring extensive experience leading complex environmental impact assessment, regulatory permitting, and multidisciplinary environmental projects.
• You have a strong understanding of environmental regulations, approval processes, and stakeholder engagement across Western and Northern Canada.
• You excel at building high-performing teams and creating an environment where people are empowered to grow, innovate, and succeed.
• You are equally comfortable discussing strategy with senior executives, supporting major pursuits, or advising clients on complex environmental challenges.
• You possess outstanding communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills, with the ability to establish credibility across diverse stakeholder groups.
• You have demonstrated success managing business performance, including financial accountability, operational planning, and resource optimization.
• You understand the importance of meaningful engagement with Indigenous Nations and communities and bring experience supporting collaborative and respectful relationships.
• You hold a degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, or a related discipline, and possess a relevant professional designation or the ability to obtain one.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $159,300 - $211,000

MB & ON: $145,300 - $200,100

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $143,900 - $191,100
