Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Engineering or relevant technical education.
  • Ten or more years in utility operations focused on design/construction project execution.
  • Five or more years leading multi-disciplinary teams in a safety-critical environment.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario preferred.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Energy Board (OEB) regulations and ESA standards.

Job description

Toronto Hydro is looking for a dynamic and strategic leader to join our team as Director, Customer Project Execution. Reporting to the Vice President, Capital Construction & External Projects, the Director provides strategic direction and oversight for the end-to-end design and execution of customer connection projects. This includes managing expansion work to address capacity constraints and ensuring timely, cost-efficient, reliable, and safe access to the distribution system for both load and generation connection requests.

The Director will lead a team of leaders, professionals, and administrative/support staff in the day-to-day execution of externally initiated project processes and activities. The role is also responsible for ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, supporting anticipated growth, and delivering a positive customer experience throughout project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leads the organization’s strategy for customer connection programs, ensuring end-to-end delivery of projects that meet regulatory requirements, corporate objectives, and customer expectations.
  • Directs the planning and execution of service connections and capacity expansion initiatives, driving efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement in design and construction processes.
  • Oversees governance of external contractors and stakeholders, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements, while managing escalations and mitigating risks.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational standards and regulatory codes, and oversees performance monitoring, reporting, and risk management across all program areas.
  • Provides leadership to departmental teams, fostering accountability, engagement, and professional growth, and maintaining a strong safety culture across all operations.
  • Engages with industry stakeholders and monitors emerging trends, influencing organizational strategy to support electrification, energy transition, and future growth opportunities.
Competencies
  • Undergraduate degree, diploma in Engineering or a combination of relevant technical education and experience.
  • Ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in utility operations, with a focus on design/construction project execution. Experience in oil/gas may be considered.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and external vendors in a safety‑critical environment.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of Ontario preferred.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Energy Board (OEB) regulations, ESA standards, and other applicable codes.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing strategic partnerships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strategic thinking with ability to align operational execution to corporate objectives.
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication and decision‑making abilities under complex and high‑risk conditions.
  • Proven track record of leading change management initiatives in complex operational or technical environments.
  • Models customer‑focused approach in all decisions and actions.
  • Experience managing departmental performance, budgets, and scorecards aligned to corporate objectives.

This posting is for an existing vacancy. The position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
